FYI: This year, the awards will be determined by 30% audience, 30% TVB producers, and 40% TVB executives. In the past, the ratio was 15-15-70. In 2010, the ratio was 40-30-30.

Personal Note: If it wasn't November, would have thought that this list was an April Fool's joke! 囧! To quote Felix Wong, "Totally Very Bad"!

No nomination for Joe Ma, so guessing that he will not be renewing his contract with TVB....

Based on actual screen time, quite a few of the 'Best Actress' nominees should not even be considered leads.... 囧! Tavia and Myolie are definitely nominated for the wrong series in the 'Best Actress' category. 囧! However, not too surprised about Myolie's nomination, since "Curse" is an anniversary series, and there was already a lot of hype for her performance before the series aired, but the feedback has not been good.... Out of all the series that Tavia had this year...and she is nominated for "Rippling"?! 囧!

Aimee's 'Supporting Actress' nomination is baffling and absurd...poor performance aside, don't remember such guest-starring roles being considered 'Supporting' before (note: Aimee had a three-episode stint in "Truth").... 囧! Also don't consider Ching Ho Wai's role in "Sentinel" to be a supporting role....

Also surprised at Aimee's 'Favourite Character' nomination…obviously nominated because of her status in TVB, as other female characters in "Forensic" are already more popular than her character....

Surprised that Ruco did not receive a nomination in the "Most Improved" category, but it makes sense when actually looking at "improvement", as his acting performances have always been quite good. There is stiff competition in the other categories, so he'll most likely have to settle with an AOD consolation award...the tvb.com Weibo Popularity Award is also within reach (especially considering the fact that his tvb.com Weibo has been highly ranked since the broadcast of "Truth")....

Didn't realize that MC Jin took part in so many TVB programmes this year....

Worst. List. Ever.

  1. What do you think of the list, hyn?

  2. Why must TVB nominate Myolie with Curse if her best praised role is Ghetto?

The rumours of Ruco winning Most Improved Actor are wrong, so now Ruco has great chance to win My favourite Male Character and I think he has great chance to be top 5 TV King too as dark horse. Ruco needs an award this year for his jump in popularity with keith.

  3. Best Supporting Actor: Lee Sing Cheung ("The Other Truth")???! KK Cheung ("The Life and Times of a Sentinel") ???!!! Law Lok Lam ("Yes, Sir. Sorry, Sir!")???!!! Derek Kwok ("Lives of Omission")???!!! Stupid nomination! i never think like this! I think this nomination should change!!! I nominated for Gordon Liu, Kwok Fung, in Curse of The Royal Harem!

  4. Best actor top 5 (my guess): Kevin, Michael, Ruco, Bosco, Sunny --> my pick: Kevin
(I hope Steven also get into top 5. Why didnt Joe Ma get nominated for Relics, I thought he did great. And how come Ron get nominated for W&W)

Best actress top 5 (my guess): Fala, Myolie, Jessica, Maggie, Linda --> my pick: Maggie
(feel bad for Elena KongMeYee though, I think she deserves an award for her role in ROW. I think Tavia will have a better chance of getting into top 5 if she's nominated for TOT instead of TRB)

Fave male char top 5 (my guess): Kevin, Ruco, Michael, Bosco, Raymond Wong --> my pick: Ruco or Raymond (i like them both in TOT)

Fave female char top 5 (my guess): Linda, Fala, Myolie, Tavia, Sharon --> my pick: Sharon
(i like Kate better in FH3, dont like her in LOO)

Best supporting: Ben Wong, Nancy Wu

Most improved: Jazz Lam, Mandy Wong (i have no problem with Sire Ma winning too)

    Best series: FH3

Dont care about the weibo award, its meaningless to me

Sorry for the long list. And what is the chance of Wayne winning the 3rd time TV king?? Just wondering. Btw, does that mean WHB will be counted for next year since it doesnt get any nomination at all, well to be exact, it hasnt even come out yet, anticipating for it though.

  5. Only 15 peoples in every nomination! And NO opportunities for other artis if Tvb choice wrong!

  6. ><" really stupid why can't tvb make more nominations! They completely remove competition and those who deserve from the list. last year the battle for improvement was between Raymond Wong and Ruco Chan yet in the end they didn't even bother nominating Ruco! Got me so mad <.< I mean yes everyone knew Raymond Wong having so many series it's obvious TVB will give to him but at least be more fair in nominations.

  7. Sonija Kwok is not nominated best actress for 7 days but Selena Li, whose screen time in Sentinel was so minimal, is? So obviously biased. And of course, there's the glaring omission of Bowie, Joe and Wong Hei, who were great in their respective roles.

  8. I'm going to be biased and say. Elena Kong ftw for both best actress and best supporting actress. I mean, whatever, screw it. Simply because they have so many nominees who do not deserve an acting award yet, some others who are veterans who really don't act very well, others who are nominated for roles that are not their best the remaining for roles not suited for them.

Okay, maybe I just like Elena Kong. And I really liked her performance in River of Wine.

  9. These are some interesting nominations... and some weird omissions.

For best actor, I'd pick Roger Kwok or Kevin Cheng. For best actress, I would pick Myolie for Curse, although I don't get why they didn't nominate her for Ghetto or Rippling! My choices for Favorite Characters would be for Linda and Chilam. I don't really have a preference for supporting actor but it'll be nice to see a veteran win. I'd be happy with Nancy or Sharon for best supporting. For most improved, I'm rooting for Jazz Lam (but why isn't Ruco nominiated?) and Mandy Wong.

I have to say this again though.. I really don't get some of the nominations!

  10. I think TVB 44th Anniversary Awards Nomination should change now! It's very very very stupid!
Best actor: No Joe Ma,Bowie Lam,???!!!
Best Supporting Actor: Law Lok Lam, Derek Kwok, Lee Sing Cheung, Lee Kwok Lun???!! while no nomination for Damian Lau (Lives of Omission), Kwok Fung, Gordon Liu (Curse of The Royal Harem)!
Best Supporting Actress: No Nomination for Mary Hon (The Rippling Blossom)!

  11. I may be biased but only Maggie and Elena deserve to win TVqueen. For TVking, Kevin, Roger and Wayne are fine. No Michael please!!! Fave characters are Chilam/Kevin and Maggie (gotta love her role in FH3). Best supportings are Ben Wong and Nancy (btw, i thought Ching Hor Wai did quite well with her role in Sentinel too). No Dominic Lam from GUF, what a pity. Most improved go to Jazz Lam and Sire/Mandy (like Sire more though). Best series: FH3.

  12. Kristal and Elena for best female lead award! Who's with me?! sorry none of the younger female leads had amazing performance this year. I too don't think they deserve that award at all!

  13. Yes i think tavia's performances have not stood out this year. But overall she delivers well and is an amazing actress. I vote for Tavia. Hope Tavia and Ruco will win something this year.

  14. i'm with u sport3888!!

  15. Ruco might be able to win either Most Favourite Male or Weibo popularity award and I think it's a given that he will be the top 5 for TV King given his popularity, audience will complain if the final 5 don't have him! So he will go home with some prizes at least. Glad for him :)

I'm a bit sad for Steven because I know he won't win anything this year because of his clash with TVB.

I hope Myolie's acting in Curse get better feedback so that her chance to win TV Queen don't drop. It's scary to think that TVB might give the award to an undeserving Fala!

  19. @ngophuocthinh - To me, Bowie Lam wasn't that great in River of Wine, so I'm not disappointed that he wasn't nominated. But I'm kind of offended with the lack of Joe Ma. He was outstanding in Relic of an Emissary. But of course, both actors ended their contracts with TVB this year...

This nomination list is a joke and obviously biased. I wonder if it's really a reflection of popular opinion. If Aimee Chan wins Best Supporting Actress I'm going to cut someone. Heck, if Aimee Chan wins anything I will cut someone. Nothing against her personally - she seems really sweet to me - but she really can't act. And why isn't Edwin Siu nominated for Most Improved? It's by time already!

I haven't watched enough dramas this year to really nominate anyone. Besides Joe Ma, I quite favor Chilam, Kevin Cheng, and Roger Kwok to win Best Actor (more so for RK, because he was excellent in Wax and Wane). As for Best Actress, I would love for either Yoyo Mung, Kristal Tin, Elena Kong, or Maggie Cheung to win. They all did very well this year.

I'm sad that Roger Kwok isn't nominated for Fav Male Character (besides Sammul Chan's character in Relic, Roger's character in Wax is one my favorite characters this year), but I do hope Ruco Chan wins it! No comment for Fave Female Character, but most likely Linda Chung's going to win it...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think it's cause Joe Ma didn't his contract with TVB so they aren't getting awards same with why those who have left Wong Hei, Sammul, Bowie, etc aren't getting any nomination what so ever which is very pety and bias but that's TVB for you. They hardly will care especially Sammul and Bowie making more money in mainland can treating themselves better.

  21. This list is just upsetting! Ugh! Can't believe that TY is not nominated for Mavis! No Ruco for 'Improvement'? What is TVB up to?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi hyn5, if you are referring to Felix's quote as last year TVB Anniversary delivered by Sandra Ng, I think she actually said 'totally very best' not 'totally very bad'. It is not gramatically correct, but you know how HK can be like in english.

I agree that the nomination list is worst ever. Tavia should definitely be nominated for Best Actress under The Truth and definitely not Rippling.
Even though Myolie was better received in Ghetto than Curse, Curse is an anniversary series so it is expected, like Fala nominated for No regrets instead of Ghost Writer.

It will be bad if Ruco didn't win because he didn't get nominated in Most Improved. Hopefully he will win Most Favourite category.

Best Supporting - hopefully goes to Nancy Wu. She is great.

Other categories I don't really have a top favourite.
Most Improved Actress - Sire, Mandy and Cilla are all fine.
Most Improved Actor - Maybe Jazz Lam since Ruco is not in competition
Best Supporting Actor - Many deserving ones in this category, I would pick Law Lok Lam this year.

Still don't think anyone worthy of Best Actor/Best Actress this year. Favourite Female will almost definitely go to Linda.

  23. To Anonymous:

Felix referred to TVB as "totally very bad" in his Weibo (http://www.weibo.com/1824587794/zF0t9EbWKm) because "Gun Metal Grey" was not featured in the Anniversary Gala. Sandra made a reference to this (but it was changed to "totally very best") at the awards.
