與陳豪對話 Phone Conversation with Moses Chan

December 6, 2005

Today I went to the Bay to buy a pair of men's gloves and toque for Moses because he is to fly to Mainland China to film "The Land of Wealth." I also went to Carlton Cards to buy a Christmas card and went to A Buck or Two for a gift bag. I put everything into a box and I called FedEx to come and pick the package up.

December 7, 2005

FedEx called today and they told me that there was no suite number on the address for the package. Okay, the thing was that I was supposed to send the package to Yan, a fan of Moses' that lives in Hong Kong. She had forgotten to give me her suite number for her building. Luckily, I had received an e-mail from her informing all of the members of MC Hall (Moses fan site) that they would be sending Moses to the airport on December 12, 2005 at 10:00 a.m... She had listed 2 other contact members’ phone numbers plus herself. So, I told FedEx what Yan's phone number was and Yan was able to receive the package in time to give to Moses. Yan e-mailed me and told me that she had received the package and told me to calculate time difference and call her cell phone so I would be able to talk to Moses.

December 11, 2005

At 8:00 p.m. I tried to call Yan's cell phone but it didn't work. So I tried again and it still didn't work. Then my sister, Sarah found out that I needed to dial 011 in order to make a call to HK. It started to ring and I had gotten through. A female voice answered and the background was very noisy and loud. I asked for Yan an explained that I'm Ivy calling from Canada. Yan was very surprised and excited to hear that I was calling. She told me that Moses was doing an interview at that moment and she told me to wait. I asked her if she had received the package and she told me that she had already given it to Moses. Then I asked her if Moses liked the gifts? She told me that Moses forgot to bring gloves. When he saw the gloves he was very happy and had put them on right away.

Then I thanked her for helping me out. She said it was no problem. Then she told me that Moses was done his interview. She handed the phone over to him and said, "Its Ivy calling".

I heard Moses say, "Oh" in the background. He took the phone and said, "Hello Ivy ah! Thank you ah". I asked him if he liked the gifts, he said, "I like them". I ask him, "Do they fit?" He replied, "They fit, and they fit really well". I can hear him laugh. I tell him to keep warm and take care. He said he will and I then said bye bye and so did he. Yan was back on the phone and told me that Moses was getting ready to board the airplane soon. She told me that she would e-mail me. I thanked her once again and hung up.

I was so excited to speak to Moses on the phone. I was also very nervous. There was a moment of silence when I was talking to him because I was so happy that I was thinking, "Oh my god! Ah!!!" I was shaking and my heart was pounding very fast. I sounded weird when I told him to keep warm. It seemed as if I didn't know how to speak Cantonese. Ha ha ha!

In this picture, Moses is wearing the gloves that I got him, holding the Christmas card in his left hand, holding the gift bag in his right hand, and bitting onto the toque that I also got for him.

Here is the news from that day:

與豪對話 II  Phone Conversation with Moses Chan II

Fans of Moses Chan would know that he was born on the 16th of April in 1971. Every year, for the last five years, his Hong Kong fans have been holding birthday gatherings for him. It was confirmed that this year's party be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 8 pm - 11 pm (HKT). Ever since giving Moses his Christmas present in 2005, I have been keeping in touch with MC Hall's, Yan.

Thursday, April 12, 2007 around 4 pm

I went and purchased a pair of sunglasses for Moses. Since he is busy filming for TVB's "The Gem of Life" and will be flying out to Africa to film sometime soon, I figure a pair of sunglasses to protect his eyes would be the perfect gift. Later, I went to Staples and used their FedEx service and had the parcel shipped out the next day. When I went home, I still managed to catch that week's episode of CSI. Hehehe...

Using FedEx's tracking system on-line, the parcel arrived in HK on Monday, April 16th. Plus, Yan had informed me through e-mail that she had received the parcel. She also told me that she will call me when Moses unwraps the present.

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Since the tram party was held at night between the hours of 8-11, I knew around 6 am - 11 am, I would be receiving a phone call.

At 8:01 am
Yan called me and informed me that Moses is unwrapping my present. In detail form, she told me exactly what was going on at that moment. "He is unwrapping it right now. Oh, there's a box within a box!" (Actually, it was just the sunglasses case within that box.) Then, I heard "Wah!" and other voices from the background. She told me that Moses was wearing the sunglasses and everybody was taking pictures with him. Later I heard, "ho ying ah!" (Very cool!) Then she handed her cellphone to Moses.

M: Hello, Ivy ah? Ivy...
I: Hi Moses!
M: Thank you for your gift.
I: I hope you like it.
M: I like it! It's very nice. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I: You can wear it when you film in Africa. It will protect your eyes.
M: I will, I'm wearing it right now... Thank you. I'm sorry, the reception is bad. I can't really hear you... Wah! There's a red pocket (hung bau) Thank you!
I: It's for MC Hall.
M: The hung bau is for MC Hall. Thank you! ( I believe he gave the red pocket to a member from MC Hall because it sounded like he turned around away from the phone.) I hope I will have a chance to meet with you.
I: Actually, I met you last year when I went to HK.
M: Oh yes, that's right, then I hope we'll see each other again.

The phone reception was really bad, so Moses handed the phone back to Yan. Yan thanked me for the little gift and said she will contact me and send me pictures.
The end time was 8:05 am.

After thought: So, this time I was on the phone with Moses for at least a full two minutes. It was crazy! You can so tell Moses is Taishanese because he said "hung bau" instead of "lai si". No wonder he spoke a little Taishanese in "Heart of Greed".
