How to Recognize Authentic TVB DVD Box Set

Many places are selling bootleg versions of TVB series as the authentic versions. To the common eye, the DVD sets may look authentic, but there are two things a consumer must look for.

1) The box set will always be covered in a plastic wrap. Near the opening of the box, look for a 'warning' sticker. (Bootlegs will not have this sticker!)

2) On the side of the box, always look for the numbering code. Those numbers on the box indicate that mine is the 80,008th copy. (Bootlegs will not have these numbers!)

Another tip:

From the duration of the series, you can expect how many box sets are in an entire series. 20 episodes are in 1 box set, and 30+ episodes are in 2 box sets.

Example: My friend wanted to buy "Eternal Happiness" on DVD, but I noticed that the 32-episode series was in 1 box set; thus, I told her that it was fake (EH is in 2 box sets).

  1. Your version should be released by Tai Seng right? Who is the distributor for your friend's DVD?

However, Multimedia is also licensed by TVB to produce DVD, but in Msia & Brunei. It also have English subs for older series, though they have yet to release many. Unless it's more than 40 episodes, it's usually in one box set.

  2. Yes, I have also purchased DVDs from Msia and Brunei. I've also purchased VCDs from Multimedia.

But the DVDs my friend was looking at was not from any of those distributors. They didn't even look authentic. You can say, it had "fake" written" all over it. Ha ha... :D

  3. Oic... you friend might end up buying those downloaded from internet version. Yes, I've fallen victim to those before, but mostly Mainland series, not TVB. :(

  4. But these weren't the ones dl for the internet. The DVDs came in a "box set". From looking at the box, people can mistake and purchase it as the real thing. I knew better, so I told my friend not to buy it. :)
