As Halina Tam (Suet Yee in "The Four") says, "辣椒年年有﹐今日特別多!" However, it is changed for the upcoming TVB's 41st Anniversary to, "台慶年年有﹐今年唔應該提名嘅特別多"!
TVB's 41st Anniversary is about a month and a half away. Just like every year, the main focus is on who will be winning 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress'. From the past years' award shows, it is usually one series that sweeps up most of the awards. There is no doubt that this year's series belongs to "Moonlight Resonance". Just when everybody thought that Tavia would have a shot at winning 'Best Actress', TVB goes and changes the rules this year.
"New Rule: Limitation of nominations per category from the same series".
TVB executives hand-picked which artistes are qualified to be in top ten based on their performance.
With such a big cast, TVB did not want to focus the nominations on "Moonlight Resonance" and leave out the other series.
Like every year, the results will be rigged by TVB, but I will still take a shot at guessing.
Best Actor
My Guess: Ha Yu
Ha Yu most definitely deserves the award this year! Jo Bao's performance surpassed last year's Dai Bao. It also seems as though TVB is respecting Ha Yu for his acting and his opinions. They have to respect him. Do you know why? It is because he may become a TVB-managed artiste, which means that he would be one of the 'TVB sons'. TVB always give awards to its 'family' members. That is what you call 'TVB Politics'. With that in mind, Ha Yu still deserves to win. Jo Bao was very good!
If I am to pick a second person in the race for this award, I pick Moses! TVB did not nominate Ah Ka in the category of 'My Favourite TV Male Character'; I don't know why they would do that because Ah Ka was very well-liked. Moses controlled the character very well, and he used a different method to act out the character, which surprised the cast members and the audience. Other than Ha Yu, Moses deserves to win the award again. Even if he doesn't win 'Best Actor', I don't think Moses will go empty-handed because he has a high chance at winning the award for 'Best Fashion Taste'.
My Favourite TV Male Character
My Guess: Roger Kwok
In order to reward "D.I.E." for being the second highest-rated series of the year, TVB might give this award to Roger. TVB will not give 'Best Actor' to Roger because he is not on the same level as Gallen Lo. Even when "When a Dog Loves a Cat" was about to be air on TV, TVB's promotional clips were, "July, the return of Gallen Lo!" If TVB gives Roger 'Best Actor', that would tie Gallen's record of three for the 'Actor' award. Personally, I thought Roger had no breakthrough playing Yue Chi Long in "D.I.E." You can still see Ah Wong in his portrayal. You can still see Ah Wong in his portrayal.
Since TVB added two side awards ('Best Fashion Taste' and 'tvb.com Most Popular Artiste'), Raymond might be cut out of the two male awards because Goon Ka Jai was not outstanding at all. In fact, his character was not likable! Thus, it would make sense for him to not receive the favourite award. He is not 'big enough' to win 'Best Actor'. If TVB does do this, then they are just pulling another Kevin Cheng. "Oh, we will just give you the award and push you up to the top first!" (This was what Virgina Lok said when Kevin Cheng won 'Best Actor' in 2006.) It would make sense if TVB gives Raymond 'tvb.com Most Popular Artiste' because the award is based on blog hits, and Raymond has a lot of supporters online. This would be a consolation award for losing out on the other two male awards. It is not like TVB hasn't done this to him before; they gave him 'Mainland's Most Favourite Male Artiste' last year, and that award wasn't even added in until the last minute.
The 'My Favourite TV Male Character' award should go to Kenneth Ma's MK Sun in "Survivor's Law II". There is no doubt in my mind that MK Sun is this year's most liked character. Too bad the series was aired at a bad time; if not, MK would be even more famous! For a bad time to be aired, it is still the ninth-highest in ratings right now (better than "The Seventh Day", which is last in ratings). Just like Moses, Ma Ming is very involved in character development. Other than suggesting to add a line from Ron Ng's song, "Don't Blame Her" (the scene where MK picked Lily up from the airport), it was Ma Ming's idea for MK to have a fake tie. Ma Ming revealed that he wore fake ties during his young school days, so he had his mom make the fake ties to fit his character in the series. MK Sun is a classic character making special guest appearances in "The Money-Maker Recipe" and "Your Class or Mine". How is MK not a favourite character?

I disagree that Ray's character in MR wasn't likeable - I mean, I thought his dedication to his family very admirable, but I definitely agree that he wasn't outstanding. Ha Yu won as he should.
ReplyDeleteTVB must really love Ray a lot though, since they keep coming up with all these comfort prizes for him each year. I wonder what the comfort prize will be this year? If TVB stopped favouring him so much, he might actually work harder.
This is why TVBs game of favouritism really harms their actors/actresses more than helping them. They are pushed to the top undeservingly, and not only is it unfair to those who actually worked for it and deserved it, it also produces mediocre shows!
To Advo:
ReplyDeleteI personally did not like Goon Ka Jai because this character did not have any personality to it; it was just one-note. This character also didn't live up to the nickname 'Goon Ka Jai'. However, this character generally well-received with the typical audience.
