"Growing Through Life" Promotional Clip 2

Raymond Lam: I want everyone to know that you have a man who loves you.

Song Wen Fei: You can really act as if nothing happened?

Bosco Wong: If you really don't love me, then I have nothing to say! But if you won't be with me because I'm poor, I will never forgive you!

Personal Note: I didn't translate the part on Raymond's Cantonese version of the theme song that was featured in the clip.

  1. I hate Raymond's hair in this series :\
It's even worse than his hair in TMOL. D:

  2. ^LOL, I have to disagree though. Aside from the fringe, his hair in MOL was seriously hideous. His hair in GTL isn't great either, but it's kinda cute in the dorky way. At least he's wearing some pretty good outfits in GTL - he had some of the gayest outfits ever in MOL!

So far (only watched ep. 1), I really like GTL. Ray's acting is pretty good, and 1000x better than in MOL!

  3. i have to agree with both of the post up there ^ !!! he did have really did had some very fenimen looking outfits...and i hope this is gonna be a good drama. the promotion clip was pretty simple, but i love the way bosco deliver that last line and the theme song, can someone tell me who sang it? is it raymond lam? i'm not chinese, but i think it sounds like raymond voice

  4. To Anonymous:

Raymond's hair in both "Mysteries" and "Growing" are bad.

His best hairstyle is in "Heart of Greed".

    To Advo:

The dorky hairstyle reminds me of Ma Ming's in "The Master of Tai Chi".

Also, the outfits Raymond wore in "Mysteries" are the outfits similar to what Johnson Lee wears, and doesn't look feminine in them.

    To An Pham:

I would have to disagree with you on how Bosco delivered his lines in this promo clip. Like many other actors in TVB, Bosco has problems with yelling scenes. His voice cracked.

Yes, the song played in the background is Raymond's Cantonese version of the theme song.

  5. I like the song before in the first trailer but not so much in this trailer.

Since Ray's acting is 1000x better than MOL I think his shot for winning the award is higher now? There's no competition this year.

  6. Maybe Bosco should attend training to train his yelling scenes so that his voice won't crack and can go more smoothly and nicer to the ears. His voice always has this raspy thing which makes it not so smooth and cracking.

Whether Raymond has a higher chance of winning would have to depend on the feedback and the ratings. However, I don't think the series is appealing to the HK audience.

  8. ohh haha well im not chinese so i can't tell if he's crackling or if that's just cantonese. but i though it sound powerful when he deliver it though with the facial expression....guess not :(

  9. Yup,Raymond look the best in Heart of Greed although he is only the supporting role.
In The Last Breakthrough also his hair look nice, seem to suit him, although he is a little chubby back then

  10. @ Hyn5, I don't think the outfits are feminine, just very gay. Reminds me of how Ray dresses in real life sometimes. I love Ray and I think he looks the best in simple outfits. Maybe I'm just very old-fashioned.

@ Selina, unfortunately though Ray's acting is good and I definitely like GTL (just watched ep. 13), I fear it will not appeal to the HK audience which is essential for a TV King win. I also thought DOL was good, albeit a little slow paced here and there, it didn't appeal to the HK audience either.

There's plenty of competition actually. Moses is favoured for "Can't Buy Me Love" and Wayne Lai for "Rosy Business 2". If like predicted - the HK doesn't like GTL, Ray's chances are not very high. Perhaps next year with either "An Uninvited Date" (unless, it comes out this year) or "The Colourful World Of Sister Fa".

  11. *I feel that GTL is similar to DOL

  12. To Advo:

I don't find those outfits gay, as Johnson looks quite nice wearing those in "Some Day". Perhaps it's Raymond's hair.... But I don't like Raymond's clothing style in real life (just like I don't like Joel Chan's style, who is basically Raymond's fashion consultant).

  13. @Advo: If Raymond's acting is outstanding he shouldn't be stopped from getting an award he deserves. He has a good crying scene in the promo clip so it will give him plus points, but you might be right that his hindrance is the HK audience who may not like this series. So Uninvited Date may really be his next chance if this series fails to attract. I admit too that GTL look more suitable for mainland market.

  14. To Selina:

It doesn't really matter how well you perform in the series, but if the series doesn't do well in terms of ratings, then it will not have much of a chance at TVB's Anniversary awards. However, if the ratings are decent (approx. 30 points), and the series has a lot of noise, then it will still have a chance at the awards.

  15. @ Selina, I absolutely agree. But that's just not how the awards work in reality. I thought Ray's acting in 2007 in DOL was better than both Ha Yu and Moses' over-acted performances in HOG, yet the award went to Moses which created such an outrage that TVB had to give it to Ha Yu the following year. Not that I minded, because I thought Ha Yu definitely deserved it the most for MR.

And while I do think Ray is terrific in GTL - especially after the mess that was MOL, that doesn't mean that either Wayne or Moses won't top him in their respective series. It's too early to tell.

  16. It is definitely Steven's turn to win!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha, I don't like Raymond's or Joel's style in real life either, but at least I think Joel can pull it off. :P

  18. @ Hyn5, while I do agree that a win for Steven is long overdue - which serie should he win for? I haven't watched "Ghost Writer" but I heard his acting there wasn't particular impressive? And if Ha Yu had to wait 40 years or whatever he said, there's really no guarantee that Steven will get one any time soon.

  19. To dvd:

People say Joel is trendy, but I don't like that style, and I don't think anyone can pull it off.

    To Advo:

Although Steven's acting is not outstanding in "Ghost Writer" (he's better in "Where the Legend Begins"), it's quite evident that some "behind-the-scenes" people are pushing for him to win. Although the media hasn't created much noise for him and doesn't him as a contender yet, when the anniversary nears, they will definitely create hype for him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ Hyn5, I wonder about that. Steven is not exactly a hot favourite in TVB any more. Wasn't he in Stephen Chan's camp? I won't pretend to be an expect on the HK media as you are, but I did read a couple of articles where it definitely sounded like TVB is pushing Ray hard to win. And that the fight is basically Ray vs. Moses vs. Wayne.

Perhaps, Steven will be the underdog. But since his acting isn't really that good in GW, I really don't think he should win based on his past performances. I personally too think he's a good actor, but TVB hasn't been willing to put him in any high-profile series and his acting hasn't impressed me in any of his recent series either. So, I don't really think this is Steven's year - but like I said earlier, it's too early to tell.

  21. To Advo:

Steven is basically Catherine Tsang's godson; she is his mentor, who brought him into TVB. Even though Steven was no longer TVB-managed after "Better Halves", he quickly gained his leading status back when he returned to film "Virtues of Harmony II".

I don't think it is TVB who is pushing Raymond to win; rather, it is TVB and the media who are using Raymond's popularity to respectively hype up the anniversary awards and to grab the public's attention (e.g., to sell papers, etc.).

Steven does seem to be the underdog right now, since the media hasn't labelled him as a contender yet. Steven's acting has never been outstanding. Although actors should never win based on their past performances, it happens quite often where they win for a performance that isn't their best or is only decent (e.g., Flora Chan for "Family Man", Moses Chan for "Heart of Greed", Sheren Tang for "Rosy Business").

It doesn't seem as though TVB will give the actor award to someone who has already won, and since TVB likes to have actors "take turns" in getting the award, Steven should be "next in line" to win.
