This year's TV Awards Presentation will take place on December 4th to allow both anniversary series, "Beyond the Realm of Conscience" and "Born Rich", to have fair play in nominations.
New Rule: The 'Best Actor', 'Best Actress', 'Best Supporting Actor', and 'Best Supporting Actress' categories will each have 15 nominations.
Last year, each category had 10 nominations.
New Award: 'Best Performance of the Year'
The award will be given to the artiste or host with the best performance in the past year.
Last year's new awards included 'Most Popular TVB Blog' and 'Best Fashion'.
hyn5: Based on the this year's performance, the award should be awarded to either Wayne Lai or Michael Tse. Wayne performed and hosted at many major TVB events this year. He can be seen in "Off Pedder" every day. His performance in "Rosy Business" was extraordinary, and Chai Gau Gor's quotes were very memorable. Michael's performance as Laughing in "E.U." was so big that TVB and Shaw Brothers made Laughing's prequel with the movie "Turning Point". The movie grossed a total of 16,000,000, and it was this summer's number one Chinese movie at the box office.
However, based on TVB's past history, the special award is usually given to TVB's managed artistes. I would not be surprised if the award is given to Raymond Lam or Charmaine Sheh. Even though Raymond did not have any series aired this year, the award is called 'Best Performance of the Year', so Raymond's concert performance should be enough. As 'TVB's number one sister', 'TV Queen', and with three series aired this year, Charmaine is qualified to take this award from the other competitors. If Charmaine loses out on 'Best Actress' and 'My Favourite TV Female Character', she will most definitely win the special award.

Why would Dayo not be nominated in the 'Best Actor' category? He's qualified, and the series also received positive feedback and high ratings. A lot of netizens in the HK Discussion Forum actually support Dayo to win over Wayne this year.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with sehseh about bringing back Favourite Villain and Best Couple and adding awards for behind the scenes. The production team is just as important and should be recognised as the artistes.

Some awards seem to random. Like for example the Best Dressed.. what is that all about?
I definitely want Wayne Lai to get Best Actor. I'm also hoping that Michael Tse gets both supporting actor and favorite male. He deserves an acting award because he was really good and I would actually put him on the Best Actors list if Wong He is there since I don't think he had tons of screentime either. But, I think he should also be Favorite male because his character was super popular, more so than any of the others that are bound to be nominated. Knowing TVB, they'll want to spread the wealth though.

I really hope that Selena will get most improved this year (even though I thought she should have won last year... :( ) I also want to see Sheren win something, she should have gotten something from the past several years when she did some amazing performances in good series.
ReplyDeleteI think TVB should also add 'career achievement' award to give it to Sheren cause Best Actress is based only on actual performance but Sheren deserves to win something more than that for her excellent performances in WAB (2004), LFD (2006) and RB (2009).

That is different though. TVB did not expect Laughing to be such a hit. Whereas, Wong He is the soul character of "Burning Flame". He basically represents fire fighters. Even though his screen time will divided up between Kevin Cheng and Bosco, He is still considered a male lead. Plus, Ox was very memorable. :)

The award for 'Lifetime Achievement Award' is usually honoured to veteran actor/actress. When Sheren won 'My Favourite Powerhouse Actress' in 2003, in her acceptance speech she said she was a bit young to win the award amongst the other veterans. So, giving Sheren 'Lifetime Achievement Award' is too early according to TVB definition of that award. :)
Aimee? She needs more improvement, honestly speaking. Ok, I must admit she did improve from CMN to BSS to BF III (im excluding Off Peddar cos Ive yet to watch it). The former two was not really good.
ReplyDeleteIf TVB wants to give someone even more new, give it to Koni. But she doesnt have much series this yr, except You're Hired, which is just a few episodes appearance for her. However, she did well in Laughing Gor's movie. Ok, Im a both Fala & Koni fan, but I thought that Koni's character was pretty much more outstanding than Fala's Laughing嫂.
Well, I hope TVB does give it to Selena, cos I dont think Natalie Tong & Sharon Chan has much chances to win (although Im in for the two of them but both has not many series. Prolly less than 3). Plus, I think Selena's role in BTROC could pull it off! :)
As for the improved actor, Pierre and Raymond Wong seems ok! But if only they'd aired AGWTC. Raymond Wong's pretty good inside as some geeky nurse. :P
I shall not touch on the Best Actress for now, until BTROC's halfway thru' or something. (Sensitive issue?)

ReplyDeleteAlso, I would have thought that Joe Ma, Ron Ng, and Myolie would actually be more in the running because of info from last year. Joe Ma is now contracted with TVB and after he lost that one year, I thought that they were setting him up to win or be talked about this year. Ron and Myolie were talked about filming a lot of series for this year so I thought it was TVB's way of promoting them again but I guess not. I think I'm just sad because Myolie always seems to be overlooked now but that's probably just my perception.
If they were going to do more awards, they should just split up comedic and dramatic performances because I think comedies usually don't get the recognition because they are perceived to be easier roles.
AC: I have no idea what's wrong with TVB! Last year it was obvious 2009 would be full of Ron/Myolie/Moses. They did promote Ron quite heavily initially but now Ron is like, GONE! They sent him to China to film a mainland drama. I'm really disappointed.

TVB did not send him to China. As a matter of fact, Mainland producers request Ron by name because he is quite popular in Mainland China. His money per ep on China shouldn't be that bad. He is making money for TVB, that is why they allow him to film so many series there. :)

If the Popularity award is given based on the most popular blog, does that mean Yoyo Mung is going to get it? Because she seemed to be ranked number 1 for most popular blog for majority of the year. But I don't think she really deserves it.
