'11 Anniversary Time

As always, the results will be rigged (especially when deserving nominees were left out, and many artistes were nominated for the wrong performances)...didn't even want to do this post, but it's time to reveal this year's predictions!

tvb.com Weibo Popularity Award: Kevin Cheng

Since Weibo is more Mainland-based, Kevin Cheng is definitely winning this award after gaining much popularity from the Mainland series "Bu Bu Jing Xin".

Most Improved Female Artiste: Sire Ma

Just think that Sire will win because she seems to be the most promoted of the nominees in this category.

Most Improved Male Artiste: MC Jin

Want Jazz Lam to win, but TVB will most likely give MC Jin this award to thank him for doing so much for TVB this year (i.e., hosting various programmes, participating in series, filming the Sales clip for "Triumph II", and taking part in the movie "Turning Point 2").

Best Supporting Actress: Sharon Chan ("Ghetto Justice")

Voted for Nancy Wu, and definitely think that Nancy, Elena Kong, and Queenie Chu had much more stronger performances in their respective series; however, Sharon's role in "Ghetto" created more buzz during its broadcast. Having gained more exposure after the airing of the series, as well as being promoted to a leading role in "Schemes of East and West", it seems likely for Sharon to win.

Best Supporting Actor: Ben Wong ("Lives of Omission")

Ben's 'Spicy Ginger' was definitely one of the more standout supporting roles this year (however, to me, he will forever be most memorable as Ah Hoi from "A Kindred Spirit"). The recipients of this award tend to have more experience in the industry; with over 20 years in the industry, and having received much praise for his performance, an acknowledgment in terms of an award from TVB is certainly plausible.

My Favourite TV Female Character: Linda Chung ("Yes, Sir. Sorry, Sir!")

Preferred Linda's role in "Twilight Investigation" than "Sir", but it would make sense for Linda to win for Miss Koo, considering the noise that the character created while the series aired, as well as the fact that the character was so well-received that it will be having a spin-off at the end of the year.

Best Actress: Myolie Wu ("Curse of the Royal Harem")

When actually looking at acting performance, definitely support Yoyo Mung and Elena Kong for 'Best Actress'; however, it is evident that TVB is pushing a younger fa dan to win this year, and Myolie is first in line. Although the reviews for "Curse" have been mixed (whether it is the cast's performance or the script), Myolie will most definitely win this year's 'Best Actress' award (but still think that it would be more convincing for her to win for "Rippling" or "Ghetto", since there was positive feedback for her performances as a whole in those series, while the feedback for "Curse" has not been good). Although Fala Chen is also considered a hot contender for this award, doubt that she will win, as there was much criticism for her performance in "Lives"; it is obvious that the 'Best Actress' hype surrounding Fala only serves to help solidify her first-line status.

My Favourite TV Male Character: Bosco Wong ("Lives of Omission")

My favourite male character this year was definitely Keith in "Truth", but doubt that TVB will give it Ruco Chan so soon (especially when there's a lineup for these awards). 'Crippled Co' is not a hot favourite, but he is definitely a dark house. Wouldn't be surprised if Bosco were to win this award for this role, as this character also has much support.

Best Actor: Michael Tse ("Lives of Omission")

Don't think that there were any particularly outstanding acting performances this year (especially from the females), but support Michael to win this year's 'Best Actor' award! Considering the genre of "Forensic", doubt that Wayne Lai will win for the third consecutive year, especially when there is nothing special about his performance in the series. Although Kevin Cheng is considered a hot favourite for this award, he already won this award before, so don't think that TVB will give this award to him again. With the continued popularity of Laughing, as well as TVB's intentions to expand the 'Laughing' franchise, it makes sense for Michael to win. Since TVB is all about making money, a 'Best Actor' win for Michael should also help to further increase his appearance fee!

Best Series: "Lives of Omission"

Of the series aired this year, still think that "Twilight Investigation" and "A Great Way to Care" (yes, the warehoused series that was released overseas in 2009) are the 'best'; however, 'Best Series' tends to go a series that not only had high ratings, but also created much noise that year. This year, "Lives of Omission" is definitely that series. With the movie version in the process of filming and releasing at the end of the year, winning 'Best Series' should further promote and hype up the movie.

hyn5 Publicly Shows Affection for Ron Ng

Ron Ng has been recently rumoured with Mainland artiste Viann Zhang. In the Next Magazine article, they published a Weibo update that I posted of Ron. Next titled the picture as her "showing public affection" for Ron, but it was actually me! Ha ha! Next said that she publicly praised him for being handsome, and accompanied it with a heart; however, I was the one who had that in my update! In her update, she only had a clapping symbol, and said that he was a cool, pretty boy.

hyn5photo

hyn5: "Ron Ng is really too handsome! [handsome] [heart]"

ron

Caption: "The two of them frequently pay attention to each other on Weibo. Previously, he injured his hand, and she was immediately worried and asked how he was doing. Last week, after she saw Ron Ng, she flew to Beijing for work. She, yearning for love, publicly praised Ron as being handsome, and accompanied it with a heart--very sappy".

Thanks to Mare for notifying me that I was mentioned in Next Magazine. Ha ha....

'10 Anniversary Time II

Best Supporting Actor: Evergreen Mak

evergreen

It is evident that the major contenders for 'Supporting Actor' are Dominic Lam, Ngo Ka Nin, and Evergreen Mak. Dominic received the most praise for the role of Wing Tak; however, "A Fistful of Stances" was aired too early, and he has not personally tried to garner votes. Dominic also does not seem to place much emphasis on awards, so he may not even go to the awards presentation, which makes him an unlikely candidate to actually win the award. As for Ngo Ka Nin, he made a great impact on the audience for his performance as 'Spare Rib' in the first few episodes of "No Regrets". Although Ka Nin received much praise for his performance, he does not have much screen time. Evergreen has also come in from behind, and has become more noticed for his role as Leung Fei Fan, and has gained much popularity. Evergreen should be able to gain more support as the series progresses as well, as his role is quite prominent. Evergreen has always performed well, but he has not had much recognition in the past. It would make sense for Evergreen to win because he has been with TVB for 23 years, and with his rising popularity, TVB may want to finally give him some recognition for his service and efforts.

Best Supporting Actress: Kara Hui

kara

Kara Hui has this award in the bag, especially since Susan Tse, who was seen as her biggest competitor, did not even receive a nomination. In the past year, Kara received seven major film awards, and since she just became a TVB-managed artiste, TVB will most likely reward her for her television work as well. TVB's nominations tend to be based on ratings, such that higher rated series tend to be nominated. However, since Kara was nominated for her stronger performance in "Fistful" instead of her performances in the more highly rated "Can't Buy Me Love" and "No Regrets", this will make her 'Best Supporting Actress' win even more convincing.

Most Improved Male Artiste: Raymond Wong

rw

It is quite evident that Raymond Wong is winning 'Most Improved', since his fellow competitors are not even of the same status, as Raymond has more prominent roles than the others. Many of the series that he participated in also received high ratings. In particular, with the good ratings of "When Lanes Merge" and the positive feedback regarding his performance as Turbo, it would make sense for him to win this award.

Most Improved Female Artiste: Selena Li OR Natatie Tong

selenanatalie

The competition for 'Most Improved Female Artiste' is obviously between Selena Li and Natalie Tong. Selena is the better actress and has shown more versatility; however, Natalie's sympathetic role as Ngan received a lot of noise during the broadcast of "Fistful", and it was Ngan's rape incident that propelled the ratings of "Fistful". Selena had always been nominated in 'Most Improved'; however, she did not receive a nomination in this category last year. The fact that TVB nominated her in this category again may be an indication that there is a leaning toward Selena, especially since she has a higher status than Natalie in TVB. However, Natalie has been recently getting more prominent roles, and she slightly edges out Selena in audience votes. Thus, it is difficult to predict who will actually receive 'Most Improved Female Artiste'; however, I personally would like Selena to win.

'10 Anniversary Time I

Although this topic has been well-discussed since last year, it's time to reveal this year's predictions!

Best Actor: Steven Ma

steven

Although Steven Ma is not a hot favourite to win, guessing that he will be awarded with 'Best Actor' this year. Wayne Lai already won three awards last year, and his performance in "No Regrets" is not comparable to Chai Gau. Wayne is not Gallen Lo. It is highly unlikely for Wayne to receive consecutive 'Best Actor' awards. Although "Can't Buy Me Love" received high ratings, Moses Chan's performance was only sub-par, and he was heavily criticized by netizens. Moses also received the 'Best Actor' award before, so it is highly unlikely for him to win again, especially for this particular performance. Some people believe that TVB is going to give the award to Raymond Lam because he is a heavily promoted artiste; however, there is also nothing special about his performance in "The Mysteries of Love". "Mysteries" was also criticized for copying "Detective Galileo", which also lowers his chances for 'Best Actor'. Although Steven's performance in "Ghost Writer" was not particularly outstanding, his performance is competent enough. The ratings of "Ghost" were also quite good, and with the announcement of a sequel and a stage performance, this shows that TVB also recognizes the success of this series. Steven is also basically next in line to win, so he will most likely win 'Best Actor' this year.

My Favourite TV Male Character: Kenneth Ma

ma_ming

Ku Yue Tong is definitely my favourite character this year, and my favourite character of Kenneth Ma's! Although Tong is the second brother, he is the head of the household. His siblings see him as the centre of the family, but he also has a humourous side. He is righteous, as he suppresses the strong and helps the weak. He is clever, and he also has great martial arts skills, but his flaw is that he has asthma. Kenneth was able to portray the leadership qualities of Tong, and he was also competent in various emotional scenes (e.g., when Cheung accuses him of being a coward; after discovering that Ngan had been raped; when encouraging Ngan to come forward; while reading Dr. Wing's suicide note). This character was well-written because, even though Cheung returned home, Tong still maintained his status as the decision-maker of the family. Love his signature move 'lead the horse back to the stable'! Also love the profound relationship between Tong and Dr. Wing, as well as the chemistry between Kenneth and Selena!

Best Actress: Sheren Tang

sheren

It is most likely that Sheren Tang will win the 'Best Actress' award because no other female characters this year come close to the complexity of Cheng Gau Mui. Charmaine Sheh is the only other hot favourite; however, the script of "Can't Buy Me Love" was poorly written, such that there was not much for her to do with her character. It would not be surprising for Sheren to repeat, especially since there is no competition, and she has the status to win for a consecutive year.

My Favourite TV Female Character: Fala Chen

fala

Fala Chen's major competitors in this category are Charmaine, Sheren, and Tavia Yeung; however, Charmaine and Tavia already received this award before, so it is highly unlikely that they would receive it again, while Sheren has her sights set on the 'Best Actress' award. TVB is nurturing Fala into a first lead; thus, in order for her to rise to the next level, it would make sense for her to receive the 'Favourite Character' award. Her character in "Ghost Writer" was much more well-liked by the audience, and it would also be more persuasive for her to win for Siu Chui; however, it is quite evident that Szeto Ngan Ping was nominated in this category instead so that the highest-rated series this year would not leave empty-handed.

"The Man Who Can't Be Moved" - The Script

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am

Some try to hand me money, they don't understand
I'm not broke I'm just a broken hearted man
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do
How can I move on when I've been in love with you

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I'm not moving
I'm not moving

Policeman says son you can't stay here
I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I'm not moving
I'm not moving
I'm not moving
I'm not moving

People talk about the guy
Who's waiting on a girl, oh whoa
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world

Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved
And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news
And you'll come running to the corner
'Cause you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we meet
Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street

So I'm not moving
('Cause if one day you wake up, find that you're missing me)
I'm not moving
(And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be)
I'm not moving
(Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet)
I'm not moving
(Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street)

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move

"Jar of Hearts" - Christina Perri

No I can't take one more step towards you
Cause all that's waiting is regret
And don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

And it took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I would have missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

Who do you think you are
Who do you think you are
Who do you think you are

"Airplanes" ft. Hayley Williams - B.o.B

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Yeah
I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
Cause after all the partyin' and smashin' and crashin'
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you're staring at that phone in your lap
And you hoping but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel
And they sayin' what would you wish for
If you had one chance
So airplane airplane sorry I'm late
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that then I'll switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah back when I was tryin' to get into the subway
And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it
But now a days we rappin' to stay relevant
I'm guessin that if we can make some wishes outta airplanes
Then maybe yo maybe I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain't nobody listened to my mix tape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the Cada, what's up Bobby Ray
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this shit
So here I stand and then again I say
I'm hopin' we can make some wishes outta airplanes

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

"So You Think You Can Dance" - Alex & Twitch

This is the clip from last night's "So You Think You Can Dance". Ballet dancer Alex Wong danced a hip-hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo with season four all-star Stephen "tWitch" Boss. :D

Personal Note: A little something different from my regular TVB postings. :)

Anyone here who watches "So You Think You Can Dance"? :) If so, what do you guys think so far?

This season of dance has been quite boring up until last night. Alex and tWitch's hip-hop routine was very entertaining. I really enjoyed this routine, as I watched it five times last night. Also, watched it a few more times today on PVR. :P I also like the concept of a ballet dancer seeking psychiatric help from a hip hop dancer. :)

Jose and Kent are fun to watch, as their personalities just light up the stage. However, I'm supporting Alex, as no technical dancer has won "So You Think You Can Dance" yet. :)

(Photo 1) Five original CDs which include "Thank You for Your Concern" (1993), "EMI Collection", "Return of the Cuckoo" soundtrack, "Love and Dream + Collection", and his newest album "I Am Chi Lam". Also, a scrapbook of magazine clippings of Chi Lam. Two childhood pictures of Chi Lam are found in the book.

(Photo 2) Two scrapbook clippings from magazines, such as Ming Pao Weekly, on either his filming or singing.

(Photo 3) More clippings of Chi Lam from various magazines on his past and present public functions.

(Photo 4) A very large centrefold poster from Ming Pao Weekly in 1997. This is the same year he released his album "I Like You Too". In the same year, Chi Lam got his left ear lobe pierced. You will find Chi Lam wearing a stud earring in many pictures from that year.

(Photo 5) Two Ming Pao Weekly articles with poster.

(Photo 6) This sheet of paper is actually placed into a sheet protector, as it is the first set of magazine clippings pasted onto a page.

Many article interviews were left out, such as TVB Weekly articles, Oriental Sunday articles, Next Weekly articles, and Ming Pao 'Shall We Talk' articles.

Message to Spammers and Haters

Please do not mess around in the Cbox!

I do not know why some people would waste their time to constantly talk about topics they do not like. Also, by insulting other artistes, I do not see it helping the artiste(s) you are supporting!

All of the artistes who have a tag in this blog are artistes whom I like and admire. If there happens to be an artiste without a tag, it does not necessarily mean that I do not like that particular artiste, and it certainly does not mean that it is all right to insult them.

I know that I cannot change your opinion about certain artistes, but please take your business elsewhere.

Please maintain a friendly atmosphere by respecting yourself and respecting others. Thank you for your cooperation!

'09 Anniversary Time III

Most Improved Male Artiste
My Choice: Ngo Ka Nin

ngo_ka_nin

I didn't understand why TVB didn't promote Ka Nin after "Love is Beautiful" because the series received high ratings in 2002. I think Ka Nin did a good job playing the spoiled prince. Instead, TVB promoted David Do and Mat Yeung. Well, I think Ka Nin has a lot of potential, not only in acting and hosting, but he also has a great voice for singing. I remember him singing Eason Chan's "Next Year Today" on Tung Wah Charity Show 2002. He was the tenth karaoke star. :)

Anyway, Ka Nin has received much more recognition after playing Tseung Bit Man in "Rosy Business". He is certainly winning 'Most Improved Male Artiste', as he will have a heavier role in "Righteous Sea of Heroic Love" (filming in March 2010).

raymond

As for Raymond Wong, I see him more as a second lead (or first lead because he was practically main in "Sweetness in the Salt"). Thus, to me, he is a little overqualified to be in this category. :)

Most Improved Female Artiste
My Guess: Aimee Chan

aimee

If Aimee wins, she will be the only actress/Miss HK winner to win this with three years acting experience without a leading role. (Shirley Yeung and Kate Tsui both won with three years acting experience and with a leading role.) Also, Aimee has four series under her belt, and she plays a female cop in three of them.

There will be no need for that 'if' because Aimee is a Miss HK winner, and she has had executive support ever since her participation in Miss HK 2006. :)

My Choice: Selena Li

selena

However, Selena is not nominated in this category this year. The only reason why Selena is not nominated is because she will not be present at the awards presentation, as she will still be in Toronto continuing her studies. Or maybe her status is too big to be a contender in this category? Sharon Chan is in the same league (siu fa dan) as Selena, and Selena is progressing over Sharon in both speech and in acting. We will have to wait until next year to see if TVB will nominate her for "Iron Horse Seeking Bridge".

Anyway, the bratty rich girl in "Beyond the Realm of Conscience" should be evolving into another person as she will become 賢妃. Stay tuned to "Beyond the Realm of Conscience"! :D

Also, I have always liked Catherine Chau and Rachel Kan. I think they are both very good green leaves. I first noticed Catherine in "In the Realm of Success" as a nerdy OL and Annie Man's sister in "Take My Word for It". Catherine did a great job in "A Bride for a Ride", so it is good to see her nominated. As for Rachel, it would be Miss HK 2000. She was the dark horse contestant that year. However, Rachel should have been nominated in 'Best Supporting Actress' for "Burning Flame III". Great performances from the both of them! :)

'09 Anniversary Time II

Lifetime Achievement Award
My Guess: Yu Mo Lin

After servicing TVB for 30 years, Yu Mo Lin will most likely be honoured with this award. In recent years, TVB has been casting her in different roles other than playing a cleaning lady. Yu Mo Lin is not a small actor, but rather a big character in TVB's 30 years of playing minor roles. :)

Since Lee Tim Sing will not be retiring this year, I don't think TVB will honour him with this award just yet. :)

Best Supporting Actor
My Choice: Michael Tse

michael

As Karena Lam described last year, "A 'Best Supporting Actor' is like being a thief. Your job is to steal as many scenes as possible". That is exactly what Michael did in "E.U." Michael successfully 'stole' the show with his performance as Laughing. He was so big that fans made a Facebook page to pay respects to him when Laughing died, the 1997 five dollar coin was later worth $80+ HKD per coin, and he was so big that TVB and Shaw Brothers made Laughing's prequel with the movie "Turning Point". The movie grossed a total of 16,000,000, and it was this summer's number one Chinese movie at the box office. Michael is definitely taking home the award for 'Best Supporting Actor'. :)

Best Supporting Actress
My Choice: Susan Tse

susan

The other purpose of a supporting cast member is to support the leading characters. As the saying goes, "牡丹雖好,還需綠葉扶持", which means that "even one person with great abilities cannot succeed without the abilities of others for support". The position of a supporting actor or actress is to 'know one's place'. They know their position in a series, and they do their job as an actor or actress. Susan's performance as First Wife in "Rosy Business" is just too outstanding. Her words and actions were very profound. And her eyes were really fierce! A very deserving actress to win the title of 'Best Supporting Actress'. :)

FYI: Susan Tse actually re-joined TVB in 2007 when she did that stage performance with Steven Ma, Sonija Kwok, Michael Tse, and Dexter Yeung. One time, she saw Lee Tim Sing, and she asked him if there was a suitable role for her such that he should consider casting her in his series. When Lee Tim Sing was casting for "Rosy Business" in 2008, he first thought of Susan to play the role of First Wife. Thus, he asked TVB to contact her. Susan is an great actress; it's just that no one watched her while she was in ATV.

'09 Anniversary Time I

In recent years, the award for 'Best Actress' has been more focused on compared to the 'Best Actor' award. Is it because the females are said to be 'fighting for awards'? Whatever it is, [to me] there are bigger contenders for the 'Best Actor' award this year. You have veteran powerhouse General Chai Damian Lau, the soul character of "Burning Flame" Ah Cow Wong He, superb actor Chai Gau Wayne Lai, three-time 'Actor' award winner Gallen Lo, 'Ratings Guarantee' Ah Song Dayo Wong, and the ever-so-charming Li Yi Moses Chan.

Best Actor
My Choice: Wayne Lai

wayne

"人生有幾多個十年!"
"水裡水裡去, 火裡火裡去!"
"做人最緊要活得痛快!"

Outstanding performance in "Rosy Business"! He is leading male material. The series has high ratings and positive feedback. He has support from the audience, executives, and colleagues. Also, he has done so much for TVB this year, such as hosting and performing at many of TVB's major events. Why else wouldn't Wayne be 'TV King' this year?

My Favourite TV Male Character
My Choice: Dayo Wong

dayo

The best actors are the ones who can play comedy because, if they can do comedy, they can do tragedy ["能夠演喜劇就能夠演悲劇" (quote from Wong Jing)] . Many people tend to underestimate comedians because they see it as 'easier' to play. People don't take into consideration that the actor has to be funny in a non-overacting way. They cannot be over the top or exaggerate their actions. Dayo's comedy is black humour. Mak Tai Song is another favourite added to his works.

Other hot favourites for this category include Michael Tse, Wong He, Gallen Lo, and Wayne Lai. :)

Best Actress
My Choice: Sheren Tang

sheren

Never once doubted Sheren's acting abilities. Although I would say this is not her strongest performance compared to her previous roles, it is her time to win 'Best Actress'. Even Catherine Tsang is saying it this time around. (Catherine supported Gigi Lai to win in 2004.) 天時, 地利, 人和...Sheren is definitely winning 'Best Actress'.

My Favourite TV Female Character
My Guess: Charmaine Sheh

charmaine

Charmaine's role as Lam Miu Miu is different from her past roles. With this series being a comedy, it truly brings out a more refreshing side of Charmaine. Charmaine was great in here, and with her status in TVB, she is definitely qualified to win this award. With or without voting, she deserves to win. :)

My Choice: Tavia Yeung

tavia

After many years of supporting Tavia, I am extremely happy that she is finally getting the recognition she deserves. Tavia's career path is progressing step by step. In 2003, Tavia won the award for 'Most Improved Female Artiste' and just last year, she won 'Best Supporting Actress'. Her next goal is to win 'Best Actress', but there is no specified year. And with each step, we [the audience] witness her acting becoming more mature and more in depth. Not only has she improved in her speech, but also in her eyes. The next time you watch Tavia act, take notice of her eyes. You will notice her using the ability of her windows of the soul to become the character.

Yiu Kam Ling is not evil at heart; rather, it was a path she chose to take in order to survive in the palace...just like Moses described Yiu Kam Ling is to his Cho Pei in "Where the Legend Begins".

Five Flavours of New TVB Fa Dans

lindachung
Sweet - Linda Chung

'Sweet' is Linda's delightful appearance. Her sweet smile, soft-spoken voice, and work ethics are constantly praised by veteran actors. As the Chinese saying goes, "Sweet to the Heart" is best described through Linda's character names, such as Seung Joi Sam, Yu So Sam, and Lau Sam Yu.

katetsui
Sour - Kate Tsui

'Sour' is for Kate's various images in different series. Coming from the background of 'Miss Hong Kong winner', Kate's image is more daring than other winners. Apart from speaking openly about the act of sex (during a radio interview in 2006), Kate also let down her Miss HK image and took on the role as tomboy police cadet Man Jing in "On the First Beat" and the bad girl role as Camie Lo Ka Mei in "Moonlight Resonance". Although these sourpuss lips have received an award from HKFA for her acting, Kate still has plenty of room for improvement.

selenali
Bitter - Selena Li

'Bitter' is a word best described for Selena's roles. No matter if it is in ancient, a period drama, or a modern series, the majority of Selena's characters are tragic and weak. However, her ability to portray strong characters is not at all weak. With no martial arts or dance background, Selena fought rhythmically in "Face to Fate" as single mother Yin Ye Loi. Also, in "Forensic Heroes II", Selena was able to grab the attention of the audience with the role of Cat Lee Kiu.

nancywu
Spicy - Nancy Wu

'Spicy' is the definition of Nancy's evil roles in ancient and period dramas. Her image as an 'evil girl' is too well-known to the audience. The 'spicy pepper' received full marks during the second season of "Strictly Come Dancing", winning her the fine reputation as 'Full Marks Dancing Queen'. Apart from playing 'evil girl' roles, Nancy's gentle side can be seen in "A Bride for a Ride" as Wong Sau Ying. In order to make the plain girl role more unique, Nancy added orchid hand gestures as a characteristic.

falachen
Savoury - Fala Chen

'Savoury' is also known as 'fresh flavour'. Fala's facial features are fresh and distinctive. They have the ability to captivate the audience with their sharpness and brightness. Using them to her advantage in playing the role as the mute Kam Wing Hing in "Moonlight Resonance" was an improvement in acting. Fala has great talent in language. The audience has witnessed a Fala who does not speak Cantonese to a Fala who is now more fluent and confident in speaking the Hong Kong dialect.

My Favourite: Chi Lam

I have been a fan of Chi Lam since watching "Remembrance". Plus, he was paired up with Kenix Kwok. They were a great couple in the series.

The first picture above is my very first picture of Chi Lam. I can't remember what year it is from, but it has to be from the early '90s. Just like Morton, Chi Lam was a cute child. He still looks cute!

Apart from his good looks, I really like Chi Lam's carefree attitude. Perhaps that is his secret for looking so young. He will be turning 38 in August, but he sure does not look like it.

FYI: My other favourites include (not in particular order) Ron Ng, Kenneth Ma, and Moses Chan!

Check out Chi Lam's blog!

Here's a picture of Kenix Kwok at the costume fitting of "Remembrance" in 1993 (the series aired in 1994).

Flora Chan @ 1997 "The File of Justice V" Promo

"The File of Justice V" aired in HK on March 10, 1997. This was probably Flora's first public event as an artiste. I've been a fan of Flora ever since, but there are fans who had noticed her when she was a host on TVB Pearl. Now, that is what you call a dedicated fan!

I really miss Flora and the 'Dong Ka Fa Dans!'

FYI: You can see Bobby Au Yeung signing away beside her. After all these years, Flora and Bobby have never paired up. Miss Lok said that Flora will return to film a series with Bobby. If so, I'm looking forward to it!

Kenix Kwok @ 1996 Next TV Awards Number 2

This is from 1996's Next TV Awards presented by Next Magazine. Kenix was voted number two because of the popularity of "Detective Investigation Files".

CIMG4191

She was already the female lead in her first series. Kenix Kwok has a stable position. Sitting at 'Dong Ka Fa Dan', Kenix's progress in television can be said to be 'smooth sailing'. However, she is still not satisfied. "I know I am really fortunate, but I seem to be missing something compared to others. Thus, I hope to film more great series and try different approaches. For example, I'm interested in movies and singing".

Kenix believes that her life's turning point was when she changed careers from being an insurance agent. Being an insurance agent had made her become more extroverted and more initiating. "I really like acting with my innermost feelings. It allows me to portray different people with different moods. It is very interesting, but right now, I want to try to act in a comedy series the most. I really want to see if I can do it!"

As for her win, Kenix informed her mother to let her share this joy together. "After receiving the award, I will place it at home. This is my first honour!"

Personal Note: For some reason, the English translation sounds a little off.

Butts of Ron Ng and Raymond Lam

(Left: Raymond Lam & Ron Ng)

I remember TVB receiving a few complaints about Ron and Raymond revealing their behinds in the first episode of "Twin of Brothers". I don't know why people would complain. They were wearing skin-coloured underwear. TVB later edited it to make it look as though they were nude.

FYI: This picture was taken from Raymond's 2004 "Shall We Talk" from Ming Pao Weekly. I didn't think a 2cm x 3cm picture could be blown up to this size! Ha ha....

I'm Back!

The past month and a bit went by very fast. I see many friends have missed the blog updates! Thanks for the support! I went to many more places in China this time. I went to Foshan, Pangyu, Dongguan, Guilin, Yangshuo, and Xiamen. I also revisited Shenzhen, Macau, Hong Kong, and Beijing.

I will start blogging right away!
