Selena Lee, Who Has Left the Company, Lays Down the Conditions: 'Have Not Agreed to Film Yet'
"Barrack O'Karma", which is being hailed as TVB's 'godly series', has a down-to-earth theme, and the plot is fascinating and intense. Apart from being highly praised by viewers and netizens, the feedback and ratings are excellent. The two leads, Joel Chan and Selena Lee, have also experienced a surge in popularity.
Apart from Joel and Selena, there are also many case actors in the series who have been highly praised, such as 'Crow''s Samantha Ko, whose crying acting was touching and appreciated; the performance was not only a pleasant surprise, but there are also big hopes for this year's 'Supporting Actress'.
Has to Adjust Schedule Due to Advancement into Hollywood
Female lead Selena is no longer TVB's 'biological daughter', and she has already signed a US management company to advance into Hollywood. Regarding the company filming a sequel, she said in on.cc's interview, "As for the matter of a sequel, there really is not the slightest sign of anything happening yet, but I am also very happy that they have this idea, which proves that they also attach great importance to it. However, I have not agreed to film it! I have signed another company. Have other things to do. Have to make adjustments to my schedule for next year because a lot of things have already been discussed and decided on. If it is indeed filming, have to discuss it first, and also have to discuss the collaborative format. However, I greatly admire and like the entire team of 'Barrack'. Whether it was the actors, the copy editor, the producer, or the directors, everyone put his or her heart into it. If it is the original cast and crew, I would be interested in it, but really have to see. At this moment, I also cannot agree to it yet. Have to discuss it again". Selena also said that, if a sequel were to be filmed, the accommodation of even better resources has to be given to this series. She is also very confident in the copy editor and the producer. She said, "Because this series is not a big production, the resources may not have been enough; however, this series really is a series with a lot of heart. The cast and crew put in a lot of effort. If the sequel has the accommodation of more resources, I believe that it would be even better!"
'Money Is Not My Focal Point'
She also revealed that she has to go to Japan to take part in Fashion Week in mid-October. After that, there are a lot of foreign collaborations. The Canadian series that she took part in earlier is also filming its third season, which will keep her busy. She said, "Will eat when it's prepared then! Also cannot think about so much now. However, I am very happy that the series is well-received. Very grateful". When asked whether she would 'increase [her] price' for the sequel, she said, "Have not thought about the salary! We are artists! Do not talk about money! It's like 'Forensic Heroes IV'...had to do reshoots, but I didn't really receive much money. Would film even if [I] don't receive money! Money is not my focal point. The key point is the schedule, and I really, really want it to be the original cast and crew. I feel that this is the most important thing. Would only be happy if there are more resources to make the series even better". After leaving her mother company, she has had more opportunities. She laughingly said, "Many things are accumulated. Cannot think in the career of performing arts...just as suspenseful as 'Barrack'".
Fighting with "Big White Duel" for 'Best Series'
This series' producer, Yip Chan Fai, frankly said in an interview that [they] now have to wait for the company's decision on the matter of filming a sequel. Of course, if there is a sequel, the script and story are the most important. He said, "The company did talk about filming 'Barrack 2'; however, how it would go about and what the whole story is like, it is still zero right now. The copy editor is also working on other series. Also have to wait for everyone to build the story first before taking on the next step. Also have to see whether the actors' schedules would be able to accommodate". Regarding Selena's schedule possibly having problems, with her even saying that she would only be interested if it was the original cast and crew, Yip Chan Fai said, "I also understand it well. Indeed, our whole team has a lot of heart. Everyone in the cast and crew was very happy to have gotten this series. From everyone's standpoint, certainly hope that it can be the original team". When asked whether case actors, such as Samantha, Candice Chiu, Fanny Ip, et al., would continue being used, he said, "The actors may take part again, but the story and characters may not necessarily continue. Hope that there is a fresh feeling for viewers". When asked whether he was confident in this series winning this year's 'Best Series', he said, "Leaving it up to fate! The theme of 'Barrack' is special and down-to-earth. It is a series that is suspenseful to the point that it resonates with viewers. I feel that the production of 'Big White Duel' is very good!"
Joel Chan: 'May Not Necessarily Look for Me to Do It'
Regarding 'Barrack' having a sequel, Joel admitted in an interview that he had not officially received notice that it would be filmed: "As for a sequel, leaving it to the company to decide. I really do not know at all yet, but also happy to hear about this news because netizens and viewers also really like this series. They are very immersed when watching. We are already very happy. For sequels, [we], as actors, have to wait for the company to make the arrangements, and also may not necessarily look for me to do it again! The company has so many actors; a lot of people can do it".
When asked about the 'TV King' award, he humbly said, "What virtue and ability do I have?! I would have a chance to win 'Best Old Most Improved'! Can also give me a 'Most Improved' award, but I also want Selena to win 'TV Queen'. Also extremely hope that this series is able to win 'Best Series'; then I would already be very happy".
