Daniel Cheung, who once played Fong Fuk Sang in ATV's "My Date with a Vampire", accepted an interview from the ATV programme "Asian Entertainment", hosted by Jaclyn Chu, sharing his feelings on being a past child star.
Daniel's series have brought him a significant change: "To this day, many colleagues and friends still call me 'Fuk Sang'. Even I'm used to it. This name will accompany me for the rest of my life". He also said that the character was a big challenge, and that he also received the care of the producer and the cast members at the time. The most memorable was an explosion scene: "In that scene, a few demolition bombs were attached to my body. Had to film it in one take. I was very scared at the time. It was a rare experience".
Personal Note: Although many people call Daniel 'Fuk Sang', I still call him 'Chor Bat' from "Coincidentally". ;)
Congratulations to Daniel, as he will be getting married in May!

"My Date with a Vampire" Tidbits
Chan Sap Sam, the scriptwriter of the first and second installments of "My Date with a Vampire" (also Joey Meng's husband), posted some interesting tidbits about the two series on his Weibo earlier.
- When filming the last shot of Yamamoto Ichifu turning into a skeleton in the scene where he was killed by Yamamoto Mirai on the balcony in "My Date with a Vampire", it was discovered that the prop skull was nowhere to be found. With the loss of time searching for the prop, the director came up with a solution and quickly finished filming the shot. The director used the femur in place of the skull, and said, "The skull of the vampire is obviously different from the human!"
- The Ma family's 'No Tear Curse' was originally the 'Kiss Curse'. The female Ma member would lose her supernatural powers if she were kissed; however, in order to make the storyline more romantic and more exceptional, it was changed so that they could not cry.
- The name Wong Chun Chun was derived from a Thailand restaurant. The name was picked for its ordinariness and its earthiness. Also, it was fairly easy for people to remember.
- The idea of Ma Siu Ling's quote, "Don't talk to me about interest. Just talk to me about money!", came from the Japanese TV series "Homeless Girl". The female lead's quote was "Don't pity me. Just give me money!"
- The eye colour of vampires to distinguish the different levels of the vampire was actually forced upon. Before the filming began, it was decided that the eye colour of the vampires were to be red; however, coloured eye contacts were not in trend during that time in Hong Kong, and the sponsor had limited stock. It was only by using other colours that they had enough coloured eye contacts, so Chan Sap Sam came up with using different eye colours to distinguish the different levels of the vampires.
- When "Vampire I" went to Japan to do location filming, due to inadequate resources, the producer, director, assistant director, stunt choreographer, makeup artist, etc. had to play chauffeur, police officer, tourist, corpse, etc. In order to save a thousand plus dollars on the production fee, Chan Sap Sam also made a cameo, dubbing for one line of dialogue, which can only be heard in the Cantonese version.
- The origin of Wong Chun Chun's line, "Don't love me. Don't bite me!", is slightly R-rated. It came from Chan Sap Sam's male friend's real life experience. His friend met a new girlfriend, and in the heat of the night, the girl said something similar to this line in his ear...nothing happened that night. His friend and the new girlfriend broke up peacefully shortly after that. Love's promise is never easy, even for never-aging and never-dying vampires.
- In "Vampire II", Saeki Hinako was invited to play Fujihara Sadako. During the watching of playbacks, it was discovered that there were some problems with a majority of the scenes and that they needed to be re-filmed, but the production costs have already reached their limit, so they could not pay any additional fees. When Saeki Hinako knew about this, she flew to Hong Kong to re-film the problematic scenes at no extra cost.
Personal Note: Have always been a fan of ATV's early '90s series, such as "Who Is the Winner?", "Mythical Crane and Magical Needle", "Gun and Glory", "Heroic Legends of the Yang's Family", "Vampire Expert", "I Have a Date with Spring", etc. However, "My Date with a Vampire" is my absolute all-time favourite!
"Vampire" was the first of its kind in Hong Kong television, and ATV was the first to do it! ;)

Michael Tao on "aTV 100 Celebrities"
Personal Note: Didn't know that Michael gave himself the English name 'Michael' after he graduated from TVB's Acting Class.
When Kam Kwok Leung asked Michael to thank three people, he listed Poon Ka Tak, Gary Tang, and former company TVB.
Always nice to hear Michael's chuckle! ;)

A Blast from the Past: 1998 ATV Anniversary Cook-Off
"ATV Anniversary 1998"
Here are some clips from ATV's anniversary cook-off (1998), which was hosted by Stephen Au and Kristy Yang.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Kenneth Chan & Thomas Lam vs. Alice Chan & Belinda Hamnett
Funny how Stephen thought that Thomas knew how to cook; however, Thomas later explained that that wasn't the case! :P Stephen also said that he had tried Alice's cooking before, and he also praised her cooking skills! :)
Kenneth didn't really have to cook. He was only required to make the sauce for the crab legs, which didn't work out. :P
Gilbert Lam, Andrew Yuen & Thomas Lam vs. Joey Meng, Annie Man & Alice Chan
Joey had great knife skills! Even Stephen said that it only took Joey one lesson to learn that skill. :) Ha ha.... Funny how she cut off the lettuce ribs! :D
Quite funny watching Annie 'saw' the chicken thigh! :P
Alice said that she learned how to cook after marriage; however, her cooking skills can be seen in this show. :)
Didn't like how Gilbert ripped the tails off the shrimps....
Andrew's pastry shell didn't look appealing, especially compared to the prepared version.... :P

"The Men of Justice" Sub Songs
Sub Song 1 "Hard to Say I'm Wrong" - Brenton Von Carlos
Verse 1
Wondering thru the nights,
reflecting who I really am?
I feel like losing my mind,
My heart's confused, I can't explain
There is a burning desire,
To right the wrongs I have committed,
I'm gonna make a real difference
And turn my life around again
Chorus 1
And it's so hard to say I'm wrong,
And all the troubles I been through,
Gonna Make It Right . . . :
For Once In My Life
And When will my reflection show
There is a heart that beats inside,
Could It Be Really Me,
Or is it just a dream
Verse 2
Too Scared to fall asleep,
dark shadows searching in the night,
I can fool the world,
But I cannot fool My own heart
There's still a burning desire,
To take me back where I was before,
I'm gonna make a real difference
And turn my life around again
Chorus 2
And it's so hard to say I'm wrong,
And all the troubles I been thru,
Gonna Make It Right . . .
For Once In My Life
And When will my reflection show
There is a heart that beats inside,
Could It Be Really Me,
Or is it just a dream
Chorus 3
And it's so hard to say I'm wrong,
And all the troubles I been thru,
Gonna Make It Right . . .
For Once In My Life
And When will my reflection show
There is a heart that beats inside,
Could It Be Really Me,
Or is it just a dream
I'm gonna make it through,
And make my dreams, come true

Verse 1
Everyday and everynight,
I wanna hold you close to me,
And all I ever need is you ,
You are my life

And loving you is all I ask,
I send you my love
My heart and my soul
** I’ve found my true love
Chorus
I can't stop loving you,
How can I let you know?
When our souls apart
We're feeling each other’s heart
How to let you know?
wanna let you know
you know that it’s true
my heart is only for you
Verse 3
There’s one truth you never know
I just can’t stand each day without you
And when the sky is gonna snow

The Men of Justice" Trailer
After two years, the series is finally going to air on July 25th! Since it is produced by Tang Tak Hei, it is probably going to be very similar to "The File of Justice" and "Healing Hands". However, I am still going to look forward to it, as I haven't seen Joey Meng, Amy Chan, Lawrence Ng, Berg Ng, and Kenneth Chan. :D There are also many other artistes whom I haven't seen in a long time. :)

A Blast from the Past: "Heroic Legend of the Yang's Family" Sub Song

For the longest time, I was so obsessed with this song. This sub song was from ATV's 1994 series "Heroic Legend of the Yang's Family". The song is 15 years old! I wasn't even 10 yet, and I didn't know any Mandarin, but I loved this song. At the time, I knew it was sung by Lin Zhi Hao (林志豪), but I didn't know what the song was called.

Lin Zhi Hao (林志豪)
I was on YouTube searching for Kingdom Yuen's "Scoop", and found the MV for HLYF. Then, I found out that the sub song is called
"Heroic Legend of the Yang's Family" Sub Song MV
Jacky Lui also sang a Cantonese version of the song in the sequel, "The Great General". Jacky sings okay, but he lacks emotion. The lyrics are basically the same from the Mandarin version.

ATV Sales Presentation
This clip was pretty interesting because you can see the difference between the two stations. TVB is all about themselves, while ATV can openly talk about the opposite side. It is very funny how Kenneth Chan started off apologizing to Lawrence Ng about receiving a legal letter from TVB for filming for ATV in which Lawrence denied to. Later, Kenneth talked to producer Tang Tak Hei and introduced the cast in two groups: Group 1 - switching sides artistes (Amy Chan, So Hang Suen, Pat Poon, Winnie Shum, and Jacky Lui) and Group 2 - faithful artistes (Pinky Cheung, Joey Meng, Coffee Lu, and Berg Ng). Although Berg is very faithful to ATV, he actually graduated from TVB's Acting Class.

"Coincidentally" Theme Song KTV
"Fate Is You" - Frankie Lam

ATV Days
Back in the day, ATV had produced many great series. By the time I was old enough to watch series (age 5-6), we were already in the 1990s genre. From 《中華英雄》 (1990) to "Flaming Brothers" (1999), ATV was serious in producing series to take the audience away from the competing station, TVB.
In the early '90s, I was a dedicated ATV fan. I watched a majority of their series. Of course, they had great ones and not so great ones. The bad ATV series were really easy to spot back then because there were/are fewer artistes in ATV than TVB. All I had to do was look at the cast list. Obviously, if it sounded like a bad script, then the story was not good.
ATV Collection
Other than series and variety shows, I have collected a bunch of ATV items in the '90s.
These are the cover pages of ATVE Express Programmes. They are similar to TVB's Programme Highlight Booklets; however, the ATV ones included filming and artistes information, letters from the audience, and series ratings. These programme sheets range from 1996-1998.

Yes, Frankie was an ATV artiste from 1996-1997. He filmed "Vampire Expert II", "Coincidentally", and "Forever Love Song". He also sang the theme song of "Coincidentally".

Donnie Yen filmed two great series for ATV, 1994's "Kung Fu Master" and 1995's "Fist of Fury".
"Secret Battles of the Majesty" and "I Have a Date with Spring" were also very great series. The theme song of "Secret" was a duet sung by Kwong Wa and Kristal Tin. "Spring" first started off as a stage play; it then went to the big screen, and later, ATV transformed it into a TV series. The cast included Sheren Tang, Kiki Sheung, Erica Choi, Joey Meng, Kwong Wa, and Thomas Lam. "Spring" was the first series that Sheren and Kiki starred in when they went to ATV.

The only thing in here that does not belong in the '90s is the ATV Series CD Album and the soundtrack of "My Date with a Vampire III". Here, I have postcards and a series sheet for "Fated Love", as well as series sheets for "Who Is the Killer", "The Good Old Days", "My Brother, My Mum", and "The Heroines of the Yangs".
Now, when ATV produces series, it always consists of a star-studded cast. I am very looking forward to Lawrence Ng, Amy Chan, Joey Meng, and Kenneth Chan's 《法網群英》 and Julian Cheung and Ada Choi's 《勝者為王2008》.
