"大無畏, 不惜一切, 為人永遠不顧自危, 熱誠為大眾, 為人為到底, 重重危難救大眾出重圍".
BF was the most anticipated series in 1998, and it was TVB's anniversary series in the same year. It is a high-quality drama full of fire-burning scenes. The filming process was serious, precise, and the artistes gave it their all in the portrayal of the everyday firefighting heroes rushing through smoke and flame to save lives.
From the preparation to the intense, five-month filming process, TVB had real firefighters on scene giving professional advice to the artistes, so the filming would look more realistic.
Wong He gave a promising performance playing the central character, Lok Tin Yau. Yau was a filial son and a righteous and courageous person who had a burning flame inside of him determined to become a firefighter. Wong He is the most suitable to play righteous characters, such as police officers or firefighters. Other than demonstrating his professionalism and skills in the series; such as personally going into the fire scene to film and not using a stunt double, Wong He also showed an emotional side of himself when his mother died and when he was unable to save a colleague and a citizen from a burning building.
Just like police training, firefighters must go through weeks of intense fire training and emergency medical training. In BF, the trainees forge a strong bond, and teamwork is an essential quality found in all firefighters. The "South Mountain Three Tigers" (Wong He, Chin Ka Lok, and Joe Tay) is one of the well-written storylines on brotherhood. They grew up together, went through training together and became firefighters together. They encourage each other simply by yelling out, "Who am I?!" The three of them also fought through life and death in the fire scene. At the end, Szeto But (Joe Tay) unfortunately chose to commit suicide for his actions. Yau and Ng Tai Hing (Chin Ka Lok) were deeply saddened and heartbroken by his death and even took the blame for not caring about But, which led him to choose the death road. Very touching scene!
TVB did a great job by casting the handsome, fit, and cool Louis Koo into the series. With his presence, he makes it believable that all firefighters are posters boys.
Every single cast member and crew member did an extreme job in making BF a very successful series in 1998.

I automatically think of Wong He when I think of firefighters!

ReplyDeleteYes, He is the BF icon. Part II and III do not stand up to the first one.
