Moses Chan Opens Coffee Shop, Turns Down New Series

CREDIT IF REPOSTED

Recently, TVB has been having a rise in the leaving-the-company trend, such that many siu sangs and fa dans have been going up north to film series and make money. First-line fa dan Charmaine Sheh's contract expires in May, but she still has not renewed her contract, while Bowie Lam, Joe Ma, etc. also have plans to leave. Thus, the remaining artistes have become valuable, and everyone who films has a say. Moses Chan, who has been nicknamed the city's 'Good Property King', has never turned down a series in the past ten years. Recently, in a rare occurrence, he 'disobeyed', and turned down producer Nelson Cheung's new series "Yue Fu's Hidden Dragon".

Originally, Moses was supposed to film TVB's new series "Yue Fu's Hidden Dragon" in May; however, at the last minute, he turned down the series for personal reasons. After some investigation, it was discovered that the reason for turning down the series was because of becoming a boss. Moses and investors would be opening a coffee shop in Malaysia. Since this is his first coffee shop, it would require more time to plan and figure out. He expressed to TVB that he must personally attend to the coffee shop for a month; therefore, during this time, he will not be able to take on any series.

With regard to Moses turning down the series, producer Nelson Cheung admitted that there was this matter. He disclosed that he had already booked Moses last November to film the new series. All this time, Moses did not express that there were any problems until March 1st, when [he] turned down the series for personal reasons. When asked about what the personal reason was, Nelson Cheung said, "Moses is opening a coffee shop in Malaysia, and becoming a boss, so [he] has to stay there and personally attend to it for a month. Everyone believes that this is not a reason. Opening a shop and doing business...can't just open it after saying it. Already booked him last November...why would he use this reason to turn down the series!"

Nelson Cheung expressed that the cast of this series has changed again and again. It was initially tailor-made for Sheren Tang, such that it would be a series about courtesans Dong Xiaowan, Chen Yuanyuan, etc., and apart from Sheren being in the main cast, there was also Moses Chan, Bobby Au Yeung, and Myolie Wu. Unfortunately, Sheren later turned down this series, and it is said that this was because of another Mainland series in which the salary is certainly better than TVB's. Since Sheren turned down the series, the producer could only change the concept and film "Jinling's Eight Courtesans". Moses would play a secretary of music entertainment in the series, while Bobby would play a role that is similar to 'Mozart', and Linda Chung would be added. Nelson Cheung helplessly said, "When tailor-making for artistes, it may not necessarily be what was intended. Too many influential factors. Now, the power falls on the artistes. The user has become passive. After artistes hear a story, they may not take on the series". He admitted that he is slightly unhappy because of this matter, since filming will begin on May 1st. Now pressed for time...slightly at a loss to look for another candidate.

On the other hand, Moses denied turning down series. Yesterday, he expressed, "Not turning down series. Have not turned down any series in the ten years of being in the industry. This time, because of the coffee shop opening, the schedules clashed. Already clearly explained it to the executive first hand. In the middle, there was a small misunderstanding. I also regret not being able to film this series". As for TVB's siu sangs and fa dans leaving the company one after another, and the remaining artistes becoming valuable, Moses laughingly said, "Didn't know that Sheren turned down the series. I have always been a small potato (minor character)...not convenient to comment on other people's matters. I have always been a person with a great sense of responsibility...whatever the job, would do the best. The word 'disobey' would not happen to me. Would always do the best for jobs arranged by the company".

Personal Note: Slightly disappointed that Bobby and Moses will not be able to collaborate with each other again, but Moses has said numerous times that it is his dream to open his own coffee shop, so happy for him. :)

Anyway, in another article, it was mentioned that they are considering having Ngo Ka Nin take over for Moses, but there are worries about whether he would be able to handle it. Thus, they may just change the script and increase Bobby's screen time.

Sammul Chan Discusses His Peers @ Hunan TV Interview

11.03.30《金鷹網專訪》陳鍵鋒

Sammul Chan recently accepted an interview with Hunan TV while he was doing promotions for Mainland series "Mei Ren Xin Ji". Here is a translation of the part where his peers, Raymond Lam, Kenneth Ma, Bosco Wong, and Ron Ng, were mentioned.

Interviewer: "As viewers, we think that you, Raymond Lam, Kenneth Ma, Bosco Wong, and Ron Ng set a generation".

Sammul Chan: "Fortunately, I was able to make it into this last generation. Don't know why, but doesn't seem to be any afterward, right?"

Interviewer: "Afterward, there weren't any people who were able to take over".

Sammul Chan: "Fortunately, was able to catch the last train".

Interviewer: "Actually, the five of you...would you guys be considered to have a good relationship, considering that you work in the same company?"

Sammul Chan: "Quite good. Quite good because we all started from--how do you say--a very low status and struggled together".

Interviewer: "Before, when filming together, would think that.... There were rumours saying that this one is fighting with this one, and that that one is fighting with that one. Also, this one does not get along, and that one is fighting for screen time. Thus, some people would think that who and who are on one side, and who and who are on another side. Is this true? Also, I remember that, at the time of 'Mei Ren Xin Ji', Myolie Wu came to film it. Some reporters said that you were helping Bosco keep an eye on Myolie; however, reporters asked Bosco afterward, and he would say, 'No, it seems that he is not as familiar with me as he is with Myolie'".

Sammul Chan: "What does that mean?"

Interviewer: "That you are more familiar with his girlfriend, and that you are not that familiar with him".

Sammul Chan: "Yes, I am more familiar with Myolie because I filmed more series with her. Afterward, I didn't film with Bosco. Didn't film at all! I have always been filming with Ron! Then with Myolie....

Interviewer: "Occasionally with Raymond".

Sammul Chan: "Raymond. Yes, even in 'The Four', there was no Bosco! Yes, I haven't filmed with him for many years! Don't know why. Perhaps he dislikes me.... Ha ha! Just joking! Just joking!"

Interviewer: "Do the five of you actually have a good relationship or…?"

Sammul Chan: "Good, good".

Interviewer: "It's really good?"

Sammul Chan: "You think it's false?"

Interviewer: "Don't know about this!"

Sammul Chan: "What do you want to say?"

Interviewer: "Nothing. Just really wanted to ask".

Sammul Chan: "Not bad. Not...not good to the point that we would have dinner with each other every day or go shopping together, but for some things, we would send a message. For example, a birthday, the new year, etc. Occasionally, would also have dinner because many of the times, we would meet. For example, I filmed the most with Ron--would always meet...don't know why, so more familiar with him. As for Kenneth, also not bad. Raymond later sang...he doesn't film series as much, so don't see each other as much".

Interviewer: "Also films movies".

Sammul Chan: "Yes".

Interviewer: "Also, you and Ron even guest-starred in Michael Tse's movie together!"

Sammul Chan: "Yes, very sad! Don't want to see him!"

Personal Note: All mentioned except....

Also, funny how Sammul said that he doesn't want to see Ron.... :P

"Relic of an Emissary" Promotional Clip 4

Joe Ma: "In war, attack the city second. Attack the mind first".

Joel Chan: "The emperor is the leader of the nation. Daring to go against the norm is equivalent to revolting!"

Joe Ma: "Even if someone were to revolt, it's because the emperor forced him to do so".

Joel Chan: "That's preposterous!"

Joel Chan: "Thoroughly eliminating any possible subsequent disasters is the emperor's way".

Joel Chan: "Immediately remove the Prince of Yan from his post! Life imprisonment will immediately remove Zhu Di's name!"

Joe Ma: "Do not know who will fall into whose hands until the very end".

Law Lok Lam: "In a chaotic world, afraid that every step is only driven by a desire for power".

Narrator: "'Relic of an Emissary'. April 4th @ 8:30pm".

Personal Note: Finally finished translating this promo clip....

Sammul Chan Blasts TVB for Offering Low Prices to Keep Artistes

Sammul Chan, who was previously promoted by TVB, resolutely left the company last year to go up north to develop his career. When interviewed the other day, he revealed some behind-the-scenes insider information, saying that TVB offered unreasonable terms for a contract renewal. It would be a 10-year contract with no salary increase, which made him discouraged.

In recent years, many of TVB's first-line fa dans and siu sangs have been leaving the company to go up north to film series. Apart from helping to expand the Chinese market, the salary is also much higher! Currently 32 years old, Sammul Chan joined the 'Going Up North Army' last August, and ended his relationship with TVB. The other day, Sammul accepted i-CABLE's interview, and revealed the reason behind his bitterness: "After my contract, I discussed contract renewal with the company; however, there was a dispute over a few 10 dollars raise--so not worth it!" He also revealed that he once considered becoming TVB's 'biological son', but backed out because the terms were harsh: "An executive invited me to discuss the matter of signing a contract. In the terms, it clearly stated that it would be a 10-year contract, but the salary would remain the same. I don't want to argue about anything, but who can guarantee that no one will offer me jobs two years afterward? At that time, how can I live on?"

During the interview, Sammul spoke in Cantonese, and the feeling was refreshing: "Before, I was forced to speak Mandarin. Every time [I] attended events, [I] had to hide and avoid being on camera. Clearly already the biggest station...what are they afraid of?" When mentioning having once been promoted along with Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, and Kenneth Ma by TVB, in his heart, he felt that it was not quite right seeing all the others get a higher rank. He said: "Clearly put in effort into [my] work, and was acknowledged by the audience, but my peers received awards after awards, while I only stood on the side--didn't even have a part in the nominations". He also directly said that being 'obedient' is the way to survive in TVB: "I don't know how to do that!" Regarding this matter, the reporters contacted TVB's Assistant Director of Foreign Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming, to confirm. He said: "Sammul Chan's contract with TVB has already expired. [He] is now a freelance artiste, and [his] relationship with us is still good. He even agreed to come back to help with the promotions of the new series. If he really has opinions, I will try to get an understanding of it".

"Yes, Sir. Sorry, Sir!" Promotional Clip 1

Moses Chan: "Students, you should study now. Don't be hung up on dating day and night. In the beginning, people should know that they were wrong. If you don't become independent, you will starve. Ants...."

Cilla Kung: "Shut up, Law Sir!"

Moses Chan: "Give [me] some face. Give [me] some face. Give [me] some face, okay?"

Tavia Yeung: "Law Sir, you dropped something!"

Students: "A gun?!"

Moses Chan: "Who would be so publicly immoral?"

Narrator: "'Yes, Sir. Sorry, Sir!'. April 18th @ 9:30pm".
