- 36 episodes long.
- The series will be in the format of a movie, filming with two cameras on set and entirely real locations. There will be location filming in Hengdian for two months.
- The story starts off with the execution of Empress Wei. In the palace, each person fights for power and eliminates dissidents to keep one's position, but becomes the victim of one's evil deeds in the end. The theme of the series: 'The heavens do not bully good deeds. Good thoughts bear good results' (行善天不欺, 善念修善果).
- There will be the addition of investigative elements.
- Annie Liu will play Yuan Yue (元玥), who goes from being a commoner to a princess who knows kung fu. She is rather lively, and she feels that she is very righteous but ends up causing trouble. She enters the palace to seek revenge. Edwin Siu is always guarding her and staying by her side; their relationship is exceedingly sentimental. She and Jacqueline Wong are good friends.
- Nancy Wu will play Wang Zhen (王蓁), who goes from being Princess Consort Ping to a crown princess, and then an empress.
- Steven Ma will play Emperor Xuanzong of Tang (李隆基), who is clear about what he loves and hates but has hidden ambition. He is both good and evil. He stops at nothing to become the crown prince, but it is due to circumstances; he is not considered a bad person. He has many females around him: Nancy is his wife; Chrissie Chau is his concubine; he and Annie have mutual admiration; and he and Alice Chan are rivals. The females like him; some like him for his power. In the end, he gives up everything for state power. He, Kenneth Ma, and Edwin are like brothers; Kenneth and Edwin even help him deal with Alice to get the state power back.
- Kenneth will play Ren Sanshu (任三恕), an imperial guard general. He and Nancy are a pair who had already known each other for a long time before entering the palace but later separated, and then they later reunite in the palace; however, Nancy has already become Steven's empress. He saved Jacqueline's life, so she admires him. Jacqueline dies in the end, so he ends up alone.
- Edwin will play He Li (何離), an imperial guard commander.
- Chrissie will play Zheng Chunxi (鄭純熙), an imperial concubine who becomes pregnant with the emperor's baby. She has a villainous appearance, but she actually has a straightforward personality. She is misunderstood by Steven as a spy sent by Alice to hurt him. She is a good at kung fu. She appears in the middle of the series; it is not until the second half of the series that her screen time becomes heavy.
- Alice will play Princess Taiping, Steven's aunt (i.e., his father's younger sister) who fights for the throne with him. She wants to continue Wu Zetian's era, which leads to a lot of palace scheming and struggles.
- Michelle Yim will play Empress Wei, the late emperor's empress.
- Jacqueline will play Gan Ruoqian (甘若芊), a palace maid who has a one-sided love for Kenneth.
- Susan Tse leads Angie Cheong, Candy Lo, Akina Hong, and Pinky Cheung in managing the palace. She is also called 「章尚宮」.
- Candy will play the Head of Jewellery. She battles with Susan. She is a villain. She is also called 「徐司珍」.
- Angie will play the Head of Attire who is rather competitive and confident. She and Candy are related. She is also called 「陸司製」.
- Akina will play the Head of Furnishing who is rather kindhearted and overcautious. She is also called 「南宮司設」. She and Wai Ka Hung have a love story.
- Pinky will play the Head of Food. She is also called 「汪司膳」.
- Mary Hon will play Lee Lung Kei's concubine.
- Rosanne Lui will play Lee Lung Kei's concubine.
- Lee Lung Kei will play Steven's father.
- Eric Li will play Li Chengqi (李成器), the Prince of Song.
- Sharon Luk will play Eric's wife.
- Wai Ka Hung will play a eunuch.
- Erin Wong will play Angie's right-hand woman. She is in the Department of Attire.
- Toby Chan will play Nancy's younger sister. She is in the Department of Furnishing. She gets killed by Nancy.
- Hebe Chan will play Yu Huiju (余慧菊).
- Momo Wu will play Ding Lan (丁蘭).
- Debbie Lo is in the Department of Attire.
- Mina Kwok will play Miao Rui (妙蕊), a palace maid.
- Joan Lee will play a court lady. She mainly has scenes with Pinky, Jacqueline, and Annie.
- Lena Li will play a mute girl who wants to get revenge. She has to kill someone, so she has to fight.
- Sophie Yip will play Chun Hua (春花).
- Athena Ng will play a palace maid.
- Jason Sze will play Tan Fa (譚發), an imperial guard who investigates hidden mysterious cases.
- Lucas Yiu will play Fang Zheng (方正), an imperial guard who investigates hidden mysterious cases.
- Terrence Huang will play Tang Xian (唐先), an imperial guard who investigates hidden mysterious cases.
- William Chu will play Lu Feng (呂峰), an imperial guard who investigates hidden mysterious cases.
- Dickson Wong will play Hua Di (華棣), a eunuch who follows Steven.
- Virginia Lau is in the Department of Food.
- Katrina Cheung is in the Department of Jewellery.
- Amisha Ng wants to kill Candy but gets interrupted by Angie.
- Lucy Li will play a palace maid by Michelle Yim's side.
- Andrew Yuen will play a villain who is appointed by Nancy to toy with Candy and Angie. He appears in the later part of the series.
- Mak Ling Ling will guest-star as the boss of a gold shop.
