Oriental Daily Interview with Michael Tao & Kenix Kwok

Personal Note: This interview was done over two months ago...have been waiting so long for it!

Kenix should be referring to the second installment's cliffhanger ending (didn't know that viewers wrote complaints to "K-100" back then...miss this programme's exclusive coverage). The ending of part two was definitely very memorable (i.e., Tai Yung yelling, "Jesse, if you remember me, come back!")...I remember being very immersed when watching it, telling Jesse to turn back.

Ha ha.... Kenix said that she and Michael have the same personality in real life, so it wouldn't work out; however, Jesse and Tai Yung are also of the same personality (both are strong-headed, loyal in love, and righteous), but they are the perfect onscreen pairing! :D Definitely a well-loved classic couple...my favourite onscreen pairing of all-time! :D

TVB Onscreen Couples @ 《TVB Weekly》 Issue 760

To welcome 2012's 'Season of Love', TVB is specially holding a 'TVB Top Ten Onscreen Couples Voting' so that viewers can vote for their most classic top ten onscreen couples through TVB Weekly, tvb.com, and TVB fun. The pair with the most votes will become 'My Favourite Supreme Onscreen Couple'. The results will be revealed on February 19th.

760_01760_02760_03760_04760_05760_06760_07760_08760_09760_10760_11760_12760_13760_14

Personal Note: Because only one couple was chosen to represent each year, many classic pairings were left out (while some pairings wouldn't even be considered to be 'classic'). Especially surprised that the successful pairing of Michael Tao/Kenix Kwok in the "Detective Investigation Files" franchise was excluded (from the title of this poll, I automatically thought of them; they are also my favourite pairing of all time); don't know why the pairing of Gallen Lo/Kathy Chow in "Plain Love" was selected instead.

Also surprised about the exclusions of Damian Lau/Liza Wang, Felix Wong/Barbara Yung, Gallen Lo/Maggie Cheung, Bowie Lam/Flora Chan, Louis Koo/Jessica Hsuan (their pairing in "Detective", in particular, was definitely more well-liked than Tim and Helen in "A Threshold of an Era"), and Julian Cheung/Charmaine Sheh.

Although "Square Pegs" was aired on December 30th, 2002, the majority of the series was aired in 2003, so it would make more sense for Ah Wong and Choi Fung to represent 2003. When "Triumph in the Skies" aired, the Sam-Belle and Vincent-Belle pairings were definitely more well-received than Sam-Zoe....

Many of my favourite (and definitely deemed to be classic) couples are already out of the running, but I guess I can still vote for Bobby Au Yeung/Esther Kwan and Lawrence Ng/Ada Choi. ;)

"Healing Hands II" - Miracle

In "Healing Hands II", Jackie Tong (Ada Choi) waking up from her coma and being able to spend time with her most loved, Paul Ching (Lawrence Ng), is a wonderful miracle.

Paul: I believe miracles exist in this world.
Jackie: I, too, believe because there is you.

Although their time together was short in "Healing Hands II", every moment will be cherished and not forgotten.

Best Onscreen Couples III

Gallen Lo & Maggie Cheung Ho Yee
gmc 001
Collaborations: 6
Gallen and Maggie have worked together in four series ("Cold Blood Warm Heart", "Mystery Files", "Old Time Buddies", and "Old Time Buddies - To Catch a Thief"), one musical ("Old Time Buddies Musical"), and one movie ("Those Were the Days"). Their most classic pairing would have to be the "Old Time Buddies" series, where they played Lee Kei and Ching Bo Chu.

Kwong Wa & Anne Heung
Collaborations: 4
Kwong Wa & Melissa Ng
Collaborations: 5
awm
It does not matter if Kwong Wa is in ATV or in TVB because he is always paired up with the same female co-stars. In ATV, he worked with Erica Choi Hui Yee and Joey Meng Yee Man four times (probably even more). When he 'jumped' television stations to TVB, he was paired up with Mariane Chan, Esther Kwan, Nadia Chan, and Maggie Cheung, but for the majority of the time, he was paired up with Anne and Melissa. I really miss Kwong Wa! I hope he will return and film for TVB soon because TVB is really running low on male leads, since so many of them are either filming in the 60-episode long drama or will soon to be cast in the 80-episode long drama.

Okay, that's all of the 'Best Onscreen Couples'. KW & Anne & Melissa are on the list because they have filmed so many series together. Once a male artiste and a female artiste start to pair up in their first series together, the number of times they will pair up again would be endless. The audience will love them, and then TVB will continue to pair them up or cast them in the same series. Bobby is now filming another series with Yoyo, and this is their third collaboration. Bobby and Ada have filmed three series together. Kevin Cheng and Niki Chow: four times. Bosco and Tavia: three times. Ron/Kate, Ron/Shirley, and Ron/Toby Leung: two times. Steven and Bernice: two times. Melissa would have worked with Sunny in four series together, but she has turned down ??? and ????. Bowie and Gigi are going to be in four series together because the both of them are cast in Chik Kei Yi's 80-episode long drama.

It wouldn't kill TVB to have different pairings, will it? Steven has been pairing up with the younger generation of female artistes. I would love to see him pair up with Anne or Yoyo. He and Anne showed great chemistry on the game show "Trio Delights". Steven and Yoyo actually filmed a movie together back in 2000, but that was a long time ago.

I have already complained about TVB pairing up onscreen couples according to status and not compatibility or matching, but the pairings are just too repetitive now. There is no freshness or surprise anymore. TVB is just playing it safe by saying, "Since a couple has been paired up once and they were well-accepted, let's pair them up again". Duh!

Best Onscreen Couples II

Louis Koo & Jessica Hsuan
2002_06couplesljcoupleslj1
Collaborations: 6
Louis and Jessica have been in "Happy Harmony", "Class of Distinction", "Cold Blood Warm Heart", "A Recipe of the Heart", "Man's Best Friend", "Detective Investigation Files IV", and "A Step into the Past." However, they were only paired up in the last three series. Louis and Jessica are very good friends on screen and off screen. Many fans have hoped that they would really "hook up", but in reality they would not consider each other because they know each other too well. Louis once said that he likes girls more on the quiet side and not much talk at all. Jessica is the total opposite of what Louis is looking for in a significant other. Jessica also said that she would not consider Louis either. Anyway, Jessica is definitely the best partner for Louis. She is able to bring out a different side of Louis. He is very comfortable around her. It is like magic! They are very compatible in series.

Julian Cheung & Charmaine Sheh
couplesjc
Collaborations: 4
Chi Lam and Charmaine have paired up in two TVB series and two movies since the year 2000. After "Return of the Cuckoo", I knew that they would fall in my favourite couple category. Too bad they did not end up in the series though. Charmaine for sure has the most chemistry with Chi Lam. It seems to me that she is more comfortable in falling in love with Chi Lam in series than her more recent co-stars. Charmaine said in an interview that Sunny Chan had taught her to fall in love with her co-stars by finding their positive traits. After the completion of a series, the person must know how to leave the character by finding their negative traits. Sunny still uses this method because Melissa Ng said that he taught her the same thing while filming "Love Guaranteed". Anyway, when Chi Lam and Charmaine film together, they always seem to have the puppy love relationship. That is what makes their partnership so sweet. I love this coupling!

Bowie Lam & Flora Chan
2002_05
Collaborations: 5
Although Bowie and Flora have worked together five times, they were only paired up in "Untraceable Evidence I & II" and "Healing Hands I & II". For the longest time, I only liked Bowie because of his pairing with Flora. Just like Ada, Flora works well with her all her male co-stars because she has great 人緣. Bowie and Flora have great chemistry because they have known each other since "The File of Justice V", and that was Flora's first television series. In fact, Bowie and Jessica helped Flora with her dialogue. Bowie and Flora always play professional roles as a couple, so they always have this 'cool/cold' personality. They give off a very nice mature look as a couple. Well, except in HH because Bowie's character, Henry, was a player and only showed his maturity during his work. Even though Bowie was my first favourite partner for Flora, I have longed switched to the duo of FloMo--Moses that is.

Best Onscreen Couples I

Michael Tao & Kenix Kwok
couplesmk1couplesmk
Collaborations: 6
After Kenix participated in Miss Hong Kong 1993, she worked on her first series, "Catwalk俏佳人", and was paired up with Michael. They were also paired up "Detective Investigation Files I to III", "Shine on You" and "Love Bond". In television history, Michael and Kenix have been coupled up the most times. Their most classic pairing would have to be the DIF series. How can anyone not love Cheung Tai Yung and Jesse Ko? They were once voted 'Best Onscreen Couple' for three consecutive years by the media and audience. Talk about chemistry, eh? I can honestly say they are one of my favourite couples of all time.

Bobby Au Yeung & Esther Kwan
couplesbecouplesbe1couplesbe2
Collaborations: 5
Bobby and Esther were labelled as the 'Funniest Onscreen Couple'. Their comedy flame just seems to spark when they are a couple. Out of the 'fa dans', Esther is the only one with natural comedic skills. She does not overact or exaggerate in comedies or in dramas. She is just that good! You can just tell how perfect the duo of Bobby and Esther really are when they are paired up. They will make you laugh until your sides split.

Lawrence Ng & Ada Choi
couplelacouplesla
Collaborations: 6
Lawrence and Ada have worked together a total of six times now. They were in four TVB series, one Mainland production, and one movie. It is evident that their most memorable collaboration is "Healing Hands I & II". They have won the award for 'Best Couple' and 'Most Favourite Couple' for those series. Jackie makes Paul come out of his boring shell. Ada seems to work well with her male co-stars. She has great chemistry with Steven Ma, Bobby Au Yeung, and even Dayo Wong. In 2003, she and Dayo received the award for 'Most Favourite Couple' for "To Catch the Uncatchable". Thus, no matter who she is paired up with, she is always able to bring new blaze to add to the chemistry. Anyway, Lawrence and Ada are definitely one of my favourite couples because I just love Paul and Jackie!
