In 1998, TVB produced many classic series and, even though ten years have passed, they are still very memorable in the audiences' mind.
Allow me to exaggerate a little bit here, but this is the only series in which the love storyline is extraordinarily written for the four main characters (Paul & Jackie and Henry & Annie).
Paul and Jackie are the perfect couple. Paul is a great neurosurgeon and is very dedicated to his work; however, he is not very good when it comes to his love life. One of the reasons why Paul is such a success is because of Jackie. Jackie completes Paul.
As for Henry and Annie, right from the beginning, Henry does not want to commit to any relationship because he cannot forget that his ex-girlfriend committed suicide for him. Ever since having a secret crush on Henry since college years, Annie changes her lifestyle habits to become similar to Henry. Henry did not want history to repeat itself; he gives Annie hope and breaks her heart. When Henry was close to death, he finally lets go of his remorse [toward his ex-girlfriend] and loves Annie.
Classic Scene 1: Jackie ties Paul's shoelace and cleans his glasses
Jackie once said that she will not allow her man to not know how to tie his shoelaces, clean his glasses, or not have his tie straightened.
Classic Scene 2: Jackie tries to hold Paul's hand
During the romantic dinner, Jackie drops hints to Paul about the feelings she has for him, but Paul does not realize it and just eats.
The song "Angel Eye" represents Paul and Jackie.
During the walk home, Jackie attempts to hold Paul's hand, but fails because her illness had elapsed.
Classic Scene 3: Sunrise
If 'After Five' is Henry and Annie's "Old Place" (destination), then the place where Paul and Jackie goes to see the sunrise is their love destination.
Another representation of their love is the 'never-ending' box of snacks.
Classic Scene 4: The Ending
Paul: "I remember you (Jackie) once said that a person should at least see a rainbow once in their lifetime. Today's rainbow is very beautiful and, for some odd reason, it appeared for a long time, and it is still here. If you wake up now, you can still see it. Wake up! I know you're trying hard, but try harder. It is still here and it is outside. Wake up! Wake up!"
Paul falls asleep while reading "The Little Prince" to Jackie, and dreams of Jackie awakening from her coma.
