Ming Pao Clip
Tavia Yeung has returned to her 'mother company', TVB, after six years to act in the series "Darkside of the Moon". Netizens praised her explosive acting skills. Her eyes and gradual sneer showed multiple emotions, which was chilling and has been called 'god-level acting skills', stirring up hot topics in Mainland and Hong Kong. She has been described as making a domineering return like her character, 'Yu Moon Yuet', in the series, becoming a hot favourite for TV queen at "TV Awards Presentation 2024". Her husband, Him Law, also laughed at her for 'acting out [her] true colours. Tavia expressed in an exclusive interview with Ming Pao [today] that she does not dare to accept the praise for 'god-level acting skills' and believes that there is still room for improvement. The viewers' response was unexpected for her. Is confident in winning TV queen again, but keeping a normal attitude and not thinking about who is her biggest rival; 'the biggest rival is myself'.
Tavia thanked the viewers for their praise for her acting. Although she has not returned to TVB to film a series for six years, she has actually not filmed series for two years. When filming "Darkside", was also worried about whether her acting skills had deproved because she had never filmed a series with a female theme. The character also has a dark past, and there had been series with a similar genre before, so thought that viewers would definitely compare; however, did not think much about it during the filming. Just focused on portraying the character 'Yu Moon Yuet' well, hoping to bring something fresh to the viewers. The response that came about was unexpected for her.
Transforms into the 'Ugly Person' and Becomes an 'Eyesore' for Her Children
Would she also be terrified when watching her own performance? Tavia said no: "The character has gone through so many things and has hatred in her heart. Viewers are terrified when watching because it is not a big, mean villain, but just shows hatred in order to get revenge. Everyone may not have seen me portray this type of role much. It has already been many years since [I] last played a villainous character". Would her husband, Him, find her scary? She laughingly said, "He said that I was acting out my true colours...have also been playing the role of a good wife and a good mother for many years. I laughed at him that it was too late to wake up now!" Being said to be able to even feel her domineering aura through the screen, would she also be making a domineering return to filming series? Tavia humbly denied it, saying that she had never left. The script created a great character and was also fortunate enough to act it out. She denied that she was equally domineering at home: "Him is mainly responsible for playing with the kids. I am responsible for trivial matters and the most troublesome matters of choosing schools, education, and extracurricular activities". She laughingly said that, when she is being the 'ugly person', she becomes an 'eyesore' for her children.
Happy That the Series Has Brought Many Commercial Performances to Make Money
Tavia does not agree that she has already reached 'god-level acting skills'...just portrayed the 'Yu Moon Yuet' character as she wanted. It just happens that viewers like this feeling. "Nowadays, viewers may not like watching dramas that are too exaggerated. Like watching plain and inner drama. They know how to analyze my facial expressions...sink into the role with me. Also don't think that I am an all-around actor. An all-around actor needs to sing, dance, and act. I can only say that I act and sing; there is still room for improvement. Want to challenge comedy in the future". She is very happy that both Mainland and Hong Kong viewers like "Darkside". The click rate and level of discussion are very high in Mainland, admitting that the series has brought many commercial performances and job opportunities. The pay is captivating, but still putting [her] children first, hoping to achieve a balance. Grateful for the support of [her] family, mother, and husband, helping to take care of the children so that she can go out to work without worries.
Revealing True Feelings When Acting as Sisters with Elder Sister for the First Time
Tavia and her elder sister, Griselda Yeung, acted as sisters for the first time in the series. Initially, she was worried it would feel strange having her elder sister play her elder sister, and that viewers would 'jump out of the scene' and find it difficult to get immersed. The two surprisingly revealed true feelings and felt the heartache that they experienced together the series. The filming was very smooth, and with Priscilla Wong playing the youngest sister with a fragile personality, it did not feel out of place at all among the three of them. Asked if she and Griselda quarrel in private, she expressed that, of course, they did. When they were younger, they fought over toys and talked back to each other, but it did not damage their sisterly relationship. "My sister and I have a great relationship. Because we have our own jobs and families, we don't see each other often, but we live close to each other, and sometimes we would also see each other once a month".
Talking about becoming a hot favourite for TV queen this year, is there confidence? Tavia said, "Must have confidence. Other series are also hot favourites. There is only one award...leaving it to the viewers to vote! I am very indifferent toward awards...facing it with a normal attitude. 'Darkside' has already gained popularity and public praise. For me, it is already a great report card. Winning an award is icing on the cake, adding another glorious chapter to the achievements in my career, and having wonderful memories. Is it very important? Of course not. The most important thing is the future of [my] children...how to nurture them and my performance reaching a higher level. However, awards can let [my] children see [their] mommy's hard work and encourage them to do their best in everything".
Giving Her Vote for TV King to Her Husband
Is "No Return"'s Nancy Wu her strong rival? Tavia said, "The biggest rival is myself. Just like the dialogue in 'Darkside', 'No matter how high you rise, there is a chance that you will fall just as low'. Don't turn everyone into an enemy; everyone is also a fair competitor. Fortunate to have such a good role for me to play this time. The role that is played next time may not be that remarkable. How to break through myself is actually the most important thing". She revealed that she and her husband would discuss each other's performances. For 'Happily Ever After?', which he previously acted in, she would also give her opinion after watching it. "He really acted well in 'Happily', and there was a great reaction. Perhaps viewers like things that are down-to-earth close to reality. The character that he played encountered problems faced by many young people and married couples; there were a lot of emotions and inner struggles, which resonates with viewers. Will give the vote for TV king to him".
