Kenneth Ma as Ku Yue Tong
Character Information:
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Personality: His words are bitterly sarcastic, and he is arrogant. When criticizing others, he does not hold back. However, he is kind at heart, and cherishes family values. He suppresses the strong and helps the weak. He has high potential in martial arts. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with asthma. He is teased as the 'Wheezing Leader', and his fighting abilities can no longer be compared to the past. However, he does not become pessimistic because of this. He holds on to his beliefs and perseverance.
Background: Since young, he understood his mother Lan's (Yuen Chau) hardships, and he and his elder brother, Cheung (Kevin Cheng), were kidnapped when they were young. Therefore, he understands his mother's pain of losing a husband and son. He is willing to take his elder brother's place to take care of the family. His younger siblings see him as the centre of the family.
In order to protect his family, he has always been focused on learning martial arts. Plus, he has been endowed with great intelligence. At the age of 19, he had already won the 'Fighting Champion of Guangdong', leading to good business for their martial arts club. Situations did not always run smoothly, as he had an asthma attack the day before the competition. From then on, if he does any strenuous activity, he would have an asthma attack. He could no longer become the 'Fighting Champion of the Seven Provinces'. Even though his fighting skills are no longer comparable to the past, his willingness to uphold justice did not change. While Doctor Chan was looking for a treatment for Tong's asthma, he discovered that there was a problem with the pharmaceutical's strength pills. Because of this, he was murdered by Kwan (Jacky Heung). Tong was not afraid to stand up to the people of power and influence, as he publicly announced the harmful effects of the strength pills, exposing the pharmaceutical's bad deeds.
Tong values family; he does anything to preserve harmony in the family. One time, Leung (Jazz Lam) was teased by his family for a trivial matter; because of this, he ran away from home. Tong quickly demanded the entire family to find Leung. Because Tong understands his mother's pain of losing a family member time and time again, Leung was touched by Tong's sincerity, and he returned home. Lan was also moved by how hard Tong tries to keep the family together.
On the other hand, although Tong constantly clashes with the Tak (Dominic Lam) family, he and Tak's daughter, Ching (Selena Li), have an irrevocable bond. Tong had numerous asthma attacks, but received help from Ching's medication. Tong developed good feelings toward Ching, later finding out that Ching is the enemy's daughter. Although Tong trusts Ching, the two families' unresolved grudges cause Tong to take a step back with regards to their relationship.
Later, Tong encounters Cheung; after many obstacles, they finally reunite. Later, in order to save Ngan (Natalie Tong), Cheung had a fight with Kwan. Because of this, Tong discovered that Cheung had surprisingly high potential in martial arts, so he encouraged Cheung to take part in the 'Fighting Champion of Guangdong' competition. Tak also sent Kwan to participate. In order to win the competition, he bribed Kwong to poison Cheung, but it was unsuccessful, so Kwan killed Kwong to keep him quiet. Tong decided to bring Kwan to justice; Kwan was sentenced to the death penalty, which deepened Tak's hatred toward Tong and others.
Later, Cheung lost in the 'Fighting Champion of the Seven Provinces' competition. From then on, he became demoralized. The martial arts club's business also became worse and worse; they also had family problems. In order to unite the family's strength, Tong went through a lot of trouble, causing him to have pneumonia. Tong's health was deteriorating, but he was still able to move his siblings into uniting as one. Later, Tong discovered that the police chief had knowledge regarding his father's death. After imploring piteously, the chief was finally touched by Tong, so he testified against Tak. Tak had no way out; Tong and his younger siblings supported Cheung to have a death match with Tak, vowing to kill their enemy rightly and properly.
