TVB will film series every year, but not every series will be aired in Hong Kong. One of the biggest reasons why a series would be warehoused is that there are no sponsors for the series. Another reason is that TVB has purchased a series from either Mainland, Taiwan, Japan, or Korea to be aired on TVB Jade, so TVB would need to warehouse a series (with the same number of episodes) to accommodate for the purchased one.
Here are the different levels of 'Warehoused' series, starting with the worst case scenario.
- Released overseas and aired on Pay Vision with no promotional activities. Example: "Riches and Stitches".
- Released overseas and aired on Pay Vision with promotional activities. Example: "Face to Fate" and "Heavenly In-laws".
- Released overseas first, then aired on TVB Jade with promotional activities. Example: "Greed Mask" and "Sweetness in the Salt".
Special Case Scenario - "Ten Brothers"
- Released overseas first, and then released on Pay Vision (2006) with promotional activities. Later, it was aired (02/12/07) on TVB Jade with promotional activities. In the same year (08/20/07), it was re-aired on Jade. "Ten Brothers" holds the record for the shortest time frame between the first time it aired and when it was re-aired.
Wow... I know Ten Brothers has been aired overseas and later again in HK, but didn't know so many times!
ReplyDeleteSummer Heat wasn't quite interesting, I didn't know it never aired in HK!
I liked "Summer Heat" more than "Greed Mask." :)
ReplyDeletesummer heat was aired in HK. It was on really late at night though. I remember watching it a few years ago.

ReplyDeleteYeah, "Summer Heat" did air on TVB Jade in June of 2006.
"Strike At Heart" aired Pay Channel on May 27, 2009. That is four days after I did this post.
So, I guess nothing falls in the category of
"Released overseas, but never aired in Hong Kong". I am now going to remove that category.
Thanks!
